After having done my due with missioning I'm looking to branch out into the experience that is PvP. As I am primarily Amarr (although cross trained for Caldari up to BCs) I'd like to stick with my Crusader or Slicer choice unless you convince me otherwise.

As such, do any of you more experienced PvPers have insight into decent fits for the Slicer or Crusader?

Background - All my gunnery skills are lvl5 to BS, armour, ab/mwd the same. I run Legions, Oracles, Harbys and Navy Apocalypse and Covert Ops currently. Missile skills are still T1 although I do have Merlins, Worms and Drakes.

I'll be running solo and expect high losses whilst I learn, and have spent two months cruising low and nullsec in my covert ops just to get a feel for what's out there.

I'd appreciate any ideas you have Smile

ps.
I do have EFT and EveMon but at my age (58) I get a little bogged down in it Shocked
Also, would you recommend find a PvP corp to train with rather than basically committing suicide daily.

The Slicer is pretty pro. When I get tired of the Harpy its next on my list of ships to abuse. Wili19 swears by this slicer fit: http://kbarmy.heretic-army.biz/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=57815 and he's pretty good with it. I'll probably run a fit pretty close to that. On the bright side, you can buy slicers by the bucketfull for < 10m in Amarr....

I'm an idiot, don't mind me.

Thank you Liang. As you say, nice and cheap and a fit I can do easily.
I shall go play around with it, cheers!

As Liang pointed out, the Slicer is a really sweet ship. I actually have a Slicer with the exact fit Liang linked.

As for the Crusader... I am a bit underwhelmed by the combat interceptors with the AF MWD sig radius buff in action. I need to do some testing to find out whether combat interceptors are better than AFs in any situations other than catching fast frigates. Tip for the Crusader, though: Don't kite with it. The Slicer can do it better, and is cheaper. Use the Crusader for short range pew pew, if anything.

Now, for an actual fit as per your request. The below has 159 DPS with Multifrequency (optimal range 3 km though), and 127 DPS with Scorch (optimal range 9 km), plus 5.5k EHP, and a MWD speed of 3728 m/s (569 m/s with it off). Those are not bad numbers, but you need to keep at your optimal range to track your target. Thankfully, you can easily swap out crystals for the appropriate range you find yourself at, as lasers have instant crystal switch. Anyway, the fit:

Quote:
[Crusader, Roamer]

Gatling Pulse Laser II, Scorch S
Gatling Pulse Laser II, Scorch S
Gatling Pulse Laser II, Scorch S
Gatling Pulse Laser II, Scorch S

Limited 1MN MicroWarpdrive I
J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I

Damage Control II
200mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I
Micro Auxiliary Power Core I
Adaptive Nano Plating II

Small Energy Burst Aerator I
Small Energy Collision Accelerator I

Don't discount the other Amarr frigates, though! The Amarr frigate line-up is a bit under-rated by most people. Some thoughts on them:

  • Punisher - Very tanky, but mediocre DPS and speed. Lasers allow it nice response range control, though (instant swap between Scorch, and Multifrequency). Try it with a 400mm plate and trimarks to make people cry.
  • Inquisitor - More people should use it! Rockets plus a 200mm plate and a rep = a pretty sweet ship.
  • Executioner - Heh. Very underused, but is good for its price.
  • Crusader - Combat interceptors are a bit obsoleted by the new AFs. I'd love to use Crusader, but I just can't seem to get a fit that "works". Don't kite with it: the Slicer is cheaper and better at it.
  • Malediction - One of my favorites. Good tackle ceptor, but I fly it with a gimmicky AB/TD fit that is hell for turret ships.
  • Retribution - Another of my favorites. Lots of laser damage, and is one of the best kiting AFs when using Medium Pulse Lasers with Scorch.
  • Vengeance - The definition of "heavy tackle". Does little damage, but can be set up for 20k EHP, or to tank in the vicinity of 400-500 DPS. Coupled with the fact it has a frigate sig radius, that's insane.
  • Purifier - It's a stealth bomber that deals EM damage. Not much to say.
  • Anathema - coolest looking probing ship. Not really a combat ship, but it looks awesome.

Just to say, while the Punisher's damage output is bad (after all it has no damage bonus) the Vengeance's is not.

Sure it isn't a huge amount of damage but you can get somewhere in the region of 160 with a single BCU. I'm currently testing a dualprop, single rep tank with a BCU and full rack of rockets + NOS.

It flies well, but not so great in AF vs. AF brawls, for obvious reasons (vulnerable to neuts with no booster, doesn't have a web, has an unnecessary MWD cap penalty). Then again, I'm not planning on using it for that.

This one time, I like, totally did some stuff.
