Are there any ways to find a pilot in a plex without using probes?

What if the pilot is, say in a plex 2.0 au from a planet , and you are orbiting that planet...can you get a warpable location for the pilot on the Directional Scan?

thanks

While you can never get a warpable hit on your d-scan, with time, dedication, lots of bookmarks, and by warping around a lot, you can land on grid with your target.

That being said, getting some basic combat probing skills and using your d-scan to get a very accurate bearing and distance on your target, you can get a warpable probe hit with one scan.

Dont waste your time trying.... Just use dscan to get realllllly close, then drop combats to finish the last part. You should get most without them seeing the probes....

It is possible but very difficult and time consuming.
Unless the target happens to be neatly between two celestials you will be spending a lot of time
dropping bookmarks mid warp.
Even in ideal circumstances the target will probably be gone by the time you get close enough to slowboat the rest of the way.

I used the mid warp bookmark method to bag a T3 booster at a safespot, it took about 2 hours and over 40 bookmarks to get it done.

it can be done in theory but is extremely hard and time consuming. a good combat scanner will only have probes on dscan for about 4 seconds to get a 100% lock though

Other then the combat probes suggested above, the only other feasible solution would be to probe out the sites ahead of time, bookmark them, and then when someone comes to do the site you use your bookmark to surprise them.

It is virtually impossible to locate a player inside a complex without using scanner probes.

In theory it can be done, but I am not sure many people actually do this much and suspect that very very few manage success ... and none of those in the time it will take the intended victim to complete the site.
Finding a location without scanner probes relies on you getting a rough idea of where it is using your directional scanner and then warping back-and-forth dropping bookmarks to allow yourself to gradually home-in on that location ... finally managing to bookmark the site as you warp by (see their ship flash up on overview), or some other variation.
The chances of success? The grid that they are operating on is only a few hundred km across, and you're working with mulitple-AU distances and trying to home-in from that!
Unless I am mistaken re approach, and it's not an approach I take to this problem, it's not really that viable an option for you.

Hathrul, above, speaks true. Once you have an idea of where they are (e.g. near planet IV) you can drop your combat probes and get a scan done very quickly.

The variation on this that I use is to find myself a location out of DS range from them, and to drop some deep space probes there. I then place those probes outside the extremes of the system and run a scan. This gives me a general fix on their location and the probes only pass thru their DS range for a fraction of a second. Then I drop combat probes and set them up in a pattern around that location. As soon as they finish their analyse cycle I withdraw them ... again probes in DS range for only a very short time, a few seconds this time.

To see my probes they need to be DSing every 5 seconds or so or / and lucky with their DS timing. As far as I know that's about as good as it gets without having the sites previously BMd.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

Invite them to fleet. If they accept right click -> warp to member

LOL, yep. Good point.

Perhaps I should edit my previous statement to: "It is virtually impossible to locate a player inside a complex without using scanner probes ... unless that player is an utter tard".
