Riverini: Profiting from RMT while denouncing it.

For the last few days when I have visited EN24, at the top of it there has been ads for RMT. Riverini, who apparently is running for CSM, has railed against RMTing. How can you justify claiming you are against RMT while simultaneously accepting (real life money) advertising to help out people who are engaging in RMT? How do you feel about this blatant hypocrisy? Im no great fan of anyone running for CSM, but it seems messed up in my eyes to say youre against something and while personally profiting from helping to propagate it. Don't say something out of one side of your mouth and do the opposite once you realize theres some cash involved.

I would imagine that his defense is that EN24 uses whatever ads are available to generate income, and as with late night infomercials the site absolves itself of any statements made by the advertiser.

It should be fairly obvious it is an RMT site when he saw the text submitted for the ad. He still took their money.

I get RMT ads on eveboard, down with Chribba.

Now, the more serious answer is that website operators don't really control what ads show up on their site through services like AdChoices or Adsense.

Not that I care about riverini, in any case.

In my humble opinion, a person should be responsible for the content of their website. Its a convenient excuse to say it was someone else who put it there, but ultimately its still your website, and you are still helping propagate RMTing.

In defense of the advertising, I also use google adsense and as far as I can tell there's no way to control these ads with any degree of finess. I literally put comments on the page telling people not to click on these ads and still people do such a thing.

So I can honestly stand up and defend Riverini from these accusations.....

However I can find no justifiable defense for the biased, poorly researched content on EN24. If he puts the same level of research into CSM issue as he does into EN24 stories then that would not bode well should he be elected.

It's a symptom of running google ads. I see you are already crying about it though so I will bid you good day sir.

Truth to be told the website owner can filter adds shown at his site. For instance eve-ru was getting a fair share of isk selling ads until admins got around to it and fixed the problem.
OP just points out to the fact that riverini is a lazy guy and thus will be useless in CSM =)

CCP runs ads asking us for more money. What is the difference?

Principally nothing. However the points made are associated with where monies are being distributed to and thus wether CCP are in receipt of such to help with game development.

Now looking at this I realise I spoke too fast, this whole thread is actually a parody of a typical EN24 story - highlighting the shoddy biased reporting to be found on that (so called) news site.

Very well played sir!

That does not at all invalidate what I asserted his likely argument to be.

I can understand your position, but this is literally like holding a television station responsible for late night Oxyclean commercials.

I suppose from a consumer standpoint the website operator has the option to turn down the use of Google's advertisements and thereby "vote with their feet" with regards to the unacceptability of those particular ads; but, no one outside of EVE Online gives a damn about RMT in EVE Online so I doubt that would be feasible.

I for one am shocked and appalled by such blatant manipulation of my sensitive voting sensibilities.

To be fair, RMT ads are probably more truthful and accurate than anything else appearing on EN24.

Didn't we lose sight that the bots are good? And we should try to protect them and enjoy having them with us?
