Actors really should be involved in politics, because they are better than us and have much higher consciousness of world issues.

Problem solved:) UK saves face, and saves money on having to protect the handful of sheep herders living there.

The french only had half of them, we owned the east island from the start and I think the french took/bought their bit from the spanish.

In any event Argies wasnt a country untill 50 or so years after we took over all of the islands so quite how they can have a claim is beyond me. Its funny how this was not a big issue for them untill oil was found.

The History - as far as i can deduce....

They were found, by who is debatable, but they started appearing in maps from magelan times.

The spanish took an interest, for a while but lack of fertile soils was a problem, The french took an interest as did the British and the Spanish were told 'Theres yer boat mate, go sail' which they did.

The British saw fruitful seal fur lands and the French built a maison - as they do.

The British later said to the French 'Theres yer boat mate, go sail' - and they did.

Everyone left for a while, with a civilian British 'hardy folk' contingent left. The Argentines landed, got lost for a while and then found their boat again and set sail. The British returned, in larger than previous excursions force and liked that it was still British, bar a few soon to be forgotten tourists.

WW1 happened and the Falklands became coaling station number 1 for southern fleets. WW2 happened and again the Falklands showed themselves to be wonderful docks, with nice protectable seas and lands. Colonies began in earnest of course with the new trade.

Some time in the 60's some Argentines mugged a DC3 pilot and told him to land on the Falklands, they promptly said 'Woop, this is ours' then promptly got starved and well chilled and finally told to 'Foxtrot Oscar, Romeo Foxtrot'. Which they did, to a heroes welcome in Argentina.

Since then any sabres rattled in Argentina, for votes, basically have the Falklands Islands at the tip of their blade.

Currently every citizen of the Falklands Islands is proud to be British.

Ill add that the Falklands were pretty much founded by the British, the other nations didnt really want to be there and thats shown in the fact that rather than bloodshed, deals were done.

The British in a way founded the islands through commerce with other founders, then they set about colonising and found genuine use for them - i have no doubt that use was foreseen right from the start.

Today they are a significant asset to the Royal Navy and Air Force.

Pretty much everyone else that set foot on the islands couldnt give a toss about them and looked forward to the day they could leave.

Its not like its indiginous tribe cleansingly atrocious a history is it ?
