Lovers Day

It has been many years since I’ve had the distinct pleasure of ushering in one of the most sacred of holidays, Lovers Day. For those who may not be aware, we mark this occasion to remember our significant others that bring fulfillment and joy to our lives in the past, present, and Goddess willing, the future to come. For those fortunate to have a special someone, we take this time to express our appreciation by indulging our partners with intimate ritual. And for the rest of us yet to find companionship, Lovers Day can be a suitable catalyst for revealing our amorous intentions to that certain someone who has yet to notice.

Anyone who has endured the life of a capsule pilot will know that meeting the right people can be a difficult experience. The hazards of space, the unpredictable schedules, and sometimes less than legitimate lifestyles make bar hopping and social occasions a difficult venture. For some of us, the prospect of tackling an enemy vessel in an interceptor is less strenuous than approaching a vivacious vixen or handsome gentleman. You're rich, powerful, and dangerous, but you're a stammering mess when trying to web that delicious target. So what's an egger to do?

To assist our brave pilots enduring the hazards of single living, The Allure Institute is proud to announce a program for capsule pilots, called Elite Dating. This exclusive service is intended to match New Eden's elite with the highest caliber single men and women this star cluster has to offer. With just under one million eligible baseliners of all races (Yes, we have Achurans!) and backgrounds currently in our database, our goal is to link you to someone who meets your expectations. And for those who prefer the company of fellow pilots, we have activated a public FTL channel (join channel name: Singles Only) to help you meet with fellow single pilots to cure your lonely heart. The database is available on our FTL network for public consumption and the service is absolutely free!

The vacuum of space is a cold and lifeless place, but your bed chambers don’t have to be. Explore Elite Dating or FTL channel: Singles Only and find the soul mate you always wanted. And for those who already who found their true companion, feel free to share with the public your adoration and devotion for New Eden to admire.

May your day be filled with nervous excitement and guilty pleasures.
xoxo

Great idea!

Capsuleers are hard to threaten. This way, you can have a database of all their love interests and significant others who aren't immune to death, and where they live...

Instant leverage over the otherwise untouchable!

Very clever of you Ms. Doyle.

Wait, people need a specific day to tell their special someone how they feel?

What about the other 364 days of a year?

Anyway good luck with your matchmaking initiative, who knows you might find someone yourself out of it Miss Doyle.

People don't need a specific day to tell someone how they feel, Mr Marellus, but it's there if they desire to do so. But like all good things, if done in excess they cease to have meaning. It's nice every once in a while to be explicit about it. Blink

I won't claim to be an expert on such things, but as a man who's known love, it's great to have that feeling that someone special loves you each and every day. So when you wake up feeling crap some mornings, or have the afternoon from hell, or generally feel **** because things don't go your way, you can think on how lucky you are to mean the world to someone, and smile your way through the hard times.

Not sure what explicitness does except draw attention to oneself from people who are not your significant other.

Also, I noticed you avoided my joke comment about using your own dating service though, lonely this year Miss Doyle? Blink

The perks of being married to someone just as difficult to kill as myself are truly fantastic.

Except the whole "Till death do us part" clause, plus, any divorce proceedings would be delivered in 1400mm print.

I think you missed my point, Mr. Marellus. People express their love often in very subtle ways that doesn't require the words to be said, but the rarity in doing so gives the words meaning. Also, your joke might be funnier if I was single and looking. Blink

Merely teasing; I couldn't make such comment with any seriousness, even if there were the possibility to do so, not in my nature.

It's not so much missing your point though as disagreeing with it, to each their own.

Deep research into old archeological sites reveals that there was some creature involved with this tradition. He was basically a little demon type creature who used an ancient weapon called a bow to force people into doing things they didn't otherwise want to do. But it's not clear why he did that.

The heart organ is also involved in some way, but I have some evidence from ancient books, the kind that you breath on and they fall to dust so it's not clear - that the heart was the target of the bow-wielding little demon. Naturally we can expect this to be symbolism of sorts. There are no findings of any such creature, so there must be a legend around this idea or symbol - maybe even an archetype.

I cannot figure out where the candy works into this. Yes, candy! I even found the remnants of a box of candy that had this shape:

I thought the analyzer was broken when I saw that at first. There was a folded piece of what appeared to be paper attached to it, but whatever was written on it, if anything, was long gone. The whole outer container fell to dust by the time it was brought to the hanger, so there was not much more to derive from it. The inside held together a little longer, made of a kind of polymer that was shaped like the box, it had little pockets and in each was a residue of sugar and some plant-like substance comparable to a dark brown nut found on some of the planets populated before the gate fell. That's how I suspect it was candy in there.

So, a day passed... how are the statistics looking so far, ms. Doyle? How many have used your service, how much percent actually found someone, et cetera?

The service we provide allows for direct contact between the two parties, so we aren't involved beyond advertising the hopeful candidates. We have recorded thousands of visits to the portal, which indicates interest in the program. We've yet to hear back from anyone about their results just yet, but hopefully we'll hear something soon.

Hmm.

So is this a hangout place, or merely a matchmaking service? The channel name is 'Singles Only', which does not sound too welcoming for those who aren't single and looking.

I suppose it would be in poor taste to hang around there anyways, just in case the wrong signals are sent.

If it is indeed a neutral sort of comfy lounge, and welcoming to those who are not looking, I might have to swing by with my significant other.

Well said, Ms. Doyle. I've often have a hard time getting the missus (and her predecessors as well) to understand this....
