Window "smears" (background not being redrawn when windows move)

Hi all-

I'm not sure what to do about this. I have a problem (click here for screenshot) where the background is not redrawn when a window is moved or closed in-station. If you move a window, every enroute redraw is still visible. If you close it, the window closes, but the background isn't redrawn, so it looks like the window wasn't closed. This happens in-station only.

I've tried every video setting in Eve, and nothing changes this behavior. I've wiped out the client and done a cold install, and it doesn't resolve the problem.

Here's one thing that does work (briefly):

1) "CLEAR ALL SETTINGS".
2) Restart Eve. When you clear all settings, the game goes to fullscreen mode, and the problem is still there.
3) Set Windowed Mode. The problem is gone!
4) Resize the window slightly. The problem is back!

I don't have any graphical issues with any other application, games included.

I'm running Eve on a 4-core Phenom II, 8 gigs of RAM, with an old Radeon HD4770. The video driver is from the Catalyst 12.1 driver package, which is the current official one.

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

How old is your card? It sounds like you may need to upgrade to something with more on-card RAM. Resizing the window like that requires a complete refresh of the screen, and that card just may not be up to the task for a graphics-heavy game like EVE.

I can't get rid of my darn signature!  Oh, wait....

Thanks for the idea. One thing I wasn't aware of is that they'd added "Captain's Quarters" to the game. Apparently it's some kind of a vanity area where you can dress up your pilot in purchased clothes??? It's on by default, and I had no idea that it had been added to the game.

Once I noticed that, I turned it off, and the problem went away. Running 2 instances of Eve on 2 monitors on that card now, smooth as butter.

I'm not sure what lesson is to be learned here, aside from "playing dress-up is bad", but there ya go. Thanks for trying to help, and problem solved. :)
