------------- FIRST OF ALL REMEMBER TO LIKE ------------>

THE POLITICAL INCORRECTNESS MAKES A RUN FOR THE CSM7

About a year and a half ago, Czech Lion and I grew tired of the so called ‘bitter-vet’ attitude some people tended to have on various forums and, having the premise that real life already delivers a harmful dose of bad vibes, we decided to keep the bad mojo at minimum within Eve News 24. This stems from the cold reality that at the end of it all, Eve Online will always be a game, and as such it should be played for the fun of it. I do not believe in the ‘bitter-vet’ attitude, and find it to be little more than a shameless facade some guys would like to hide behind.

On a monthly basis I exchange ideas with a hundred thousand strong crowd. Yes, that is a third of the total EVE Online subscription base. The Eve Online community has so far entrusted me with the responsibility of running the primary source of news from within EVE Online. With all the known shortcomings, I have taken Eve News24 from being a mere ‘what if’ into a living, breathing part of our reader’s game experience. Nowadays, it is no exaggeration when we state that Eve News 24 generates more content to engage the player in a single week than CCP does in an average year.

I have, without doubt, become one of the most polarizing figures in EVE Online – partly because my own way of doing things, and partly because I bow to no one. Still, those who know me can attest to me being a simple and down to Earth guy.

I have never been shy of showing who I really am outside EVE. For those who wished to know, I am a 28 year old Creative Art Director named Enrique Rivera. Not German. Born in Costa Rica. Living in Panama. I speak Spanish and English. I sleep 4 hours a day, I love dogs and hate cats. I am an Aries and I love long warps along sandy solar systems.

Contrary to what most believe, I do not own a thousand characters – I simply own two, since that is my way of keeping it real within EVE Online. The hard work that you see every day in Eve News24 is the fruit of labour of many collaborators – hundreds of like minded individuals who feel that what we do is a service to the EVE Online community.

THE ROAD SO FAR

Without being related in any way to the CSM or CCP Games, I have spearheaded opinions which have proven influential for the evolution of the EVE Online community. I could discuss them for hours, but I will present just two:

Monoclegate:

- I was the one who, without any fear of reprisal from both CCP Games and the powers that be, denounced the wrong direction that was being taken by CCP Games. This paved the way for the Jita Riots, which forced CCP Games, caps in hand and suitably ashamed, to recall the CSM6 to Iceland and promise to fix the mess they put themselves in. The same Jita Riots which have now been immortalized with the shattered memorial in game. The same Jita Riots which live in the hearts and minds of every caring player. I was there to help it start, and you were all there to see it through to the promising end.

RMT Uncovered:
- Last year I exposed one of the largest RMT operations in Eve Online history, involving thousand of players and hundreds of thousand of dollars. Should we have the opportunity, I would do it again. RMT hurts the EVE Online economy. It takes away valuable revenue from CCP (funds that they use to power our server and build the world we frolick in), and it has economic effects in game too.

WAR ON BOTS

I have been one of the staunchest opponents to the ever growing botting and RMT situation. To me botting is the single most dangerous threat to EVE Online as a game. I know this, CCP knows this, and you know this. Why isn’t more being done to cope with this issue? That’s one of the issues what I intend to investigate and to propose solutions for.

Prior to the Crucible release, I prepared what could have been the biggest bombshell to EVE Online: an almost risk free botting guide. Due to the fact that I listened to my readers and collaborator’s advice and the great job CCP Games did with the Crucible expansion, I chose not to release it. In the process of working on this six article exposé I learned vast ways on how the botting trade goes untouched. ‘Know-how’ I intend to use as in-game expertise to get this issue addressed.

Make no mistake, with the issue of botting there are no silver bullets, only best practices to diminish how widespread this issue is.

EXPANDING THE SANDBOX

One of the main interest for me is to ensure a constant growth of the Eve Online player-base, this is something I have never seen this explicitly mentioned by any CSM Chair/Seat. Again I guess they believe that’s to be CCP’s job too.

Player acquisition and retention is the key to Eve Online’s long term future. This would mean more players, frequent fights, increased scams, more antics and overall increased gameplay. In short, an expansion of the sandbox itself. If you don’t care about it, you don’t care about the game at all.

The Joy of kicking Sand at Someone Else Eyes.

PVE needs a complete overhaul. Needs to be re-invented and made actually fun to run it. It should involve more than a single player and his alt. Mining, the bastard child of PVE needs a well deserved iteration, I have a couple of ideas to make those hulk skills worthy once again but over-all mining should be fun.

However, the most important “content” provided by Eve Online should be PVP content. Crucible has delivered, but is far from perfect.

Feel free to make questions regarding your views.

What is your stance on stakeholders (people who, in some way, shape or form are dependant on CCP for more then just their gaming experience) running for CSM.

Is the CSM, in your view, an appropriate vessel for people who have a stakeholdership in EVE?

Doesn't the publication on your website of guides on how to bot exclude you from CSM eligibility?

~fair and balanced reporting~ should translate into ~fair and balanced CSMing~

Those guides were never made public. Even I have limits on what I can and can't do for Eve News24. Make no mistake, post-Crucible; I have so much love for Eve Online I don't regret not making that hard work public.

I consulted CCP Games whether I was fit to run or not and their response was positive in the way I was eligible to run, as long as I met the same criteria as other players.

I can't help but think you'll just be a biased CSM (if you were to be voted one, that is) considering how you run EVENEWS24.

While you love to chew on bunch of alliances on their 'failures', I have yet to see articles of 'fail' on Brick Squad or Initiative. In the end, you just have this site called 'EVENEWS24' which is essentially an EVE's version of tabloid where you throw all the gossips and fails to attract attention, apart from 'LOLFAIL's and 'We are great!'. But hey, that's fine, because this is a game and it's not serious business! (Blasphemy!)

So what exactly IS your proposition? What kind of idea do you have in mind to attract more players and increased game play?

I don't know how you'd make mining 'fun'. "I used to be a miner like you, until I took an arrow in the knee." Jokes aside, I used to mine, but it's because I could relax and do other stuff while I check the screen every couple of minutes and unload into station or whatnot. Some people mine with others while chatting away, others use a fleet of alt for ISK making, and some use bots. How would you make mining more 'fun'? Also, sure PvE needs to be reinvented because it's boring as watching pornography while jerking off, but how would you add the aspect of 'fun' into it?

ps. Is it just me or is everybody claiming that he/she is the major factor responsible for Jita riot?

You are seriously overselling yourself here. First of all noone entrusted you to be the news source, you were basically the ONLY news source that covers all the important events, and thats why people are flocking to evenews24 despite bad grammar and bad journalism. (btw you are actually doing a really nice job with your graphic banners and so on)

Secondly, mr.one-of-the-most-polarizing-figures, please do not start out with expressing in great detail how much better you are than others, looking through your giant wall of text i only vaguely get what ideas you have and nothing about how they are going to work or are better than others.

You've made a very bad impression.

EDIT: Just want people to know that he apparently couldn't handle this same message on his news site, so he deleted it... So apparantly Riverini ignores those who speak against him. I sincerely hope you will not succeed.

Do you look like Ricky Martin in real life? If so you are responsible for raising us up to protest in the jita riots.

Why didn't you run last time? I would have loved to see your rather liberal interpretations of things like "the truth" or "things that actually happened" during the whole editing of the CSM Emergency Summit minutes.

how will you maintain the CSM NDA and still be a "effective editor/journalist".

In the past your site did contain content covered by the NDA

The Bloggers initiative was set in motion in part to take care of this issue. Two months ago, I made the shift; bloggers dissect and examine the issues which sometimes overlap with NDA content. All this, unbeknown to them. I intend to maintain this.

The blogger initiative has also allowed me and Bagehi to focus on what we love the most about evenews24, reporting on battles and providing in game perspective. We have doubled the amount of battles reported within a week, a number which we intend to grow further.

By focusing myself with in-game content, which is the killer app of EN24, i'll stay off the NDA minefield.

Eve if I were to write an opinion piece on a pressing matter, am sure the CCP Games folks would be more than willing to review the issue.

But again, the blogger initiative ensures Eve News24 independence on opinion issues. Being a jerk CCP has never been Eve News24 business.

Breaking a signed NDA is a prosecution felony in my country. So don't high your hopes on me breaking an NDA.

Thanks for your question.
