Tractors to pull your enemy closer, and salvage rigs to rip their ship apart. Why not?

At the risk of shooting myself in the foot, I must ask . . . What is this F&I of which you all speak?

I've had a similar idea in the past... but it used mining lasers. Mine your enemies to death. Twisted

It's not a stupid idea, I mean a laser is a laser, right? It must have some sort of offensive capability.

Its stupid becuase of the mass ratios. A ship mass comparison to the canister lets them tractor them in safely. Anything bigger and you would be dragged towards the object as well.

I dont know how salvaging works really, but shields and armor would make it hard I imagine.

It should be super effective against Minmatar rust-buckets.

Why not make sure your enemy's ships are piloted by captains from a certain mediterranean country and then park yourself in an asteroid belt and wait...

Then simply watch as they "trip" into their pod and scoot away to safety.

If you look at the Beam it is Massive and has a Funnel around it. Not a tool built for precision. I like to think that the Funnel is a Tractor Beam and the wide Laser burns away the unless rock, the Minerals that we make Ships and structures out of being to strong to be affected by the Beam get sucked up the Tractor Funnel and into your hold.

That is why I think Mining Beams don't hurt Ships. They are designed not to Damage the Minerals that Ships are made of.

I can hear it now, "Blob of Noctis wipe out the Minmatar Navy but all the crews later die of tetanus."

You mean have salvagers and tractor beams work as designed under any condition, just like the laws of physics??? Naaaah. CCP is not known for intellectual consistency. The fact is, they design the game with their own play in mind, then toss us what they dream up like they invented it for us. Why do you think webbers and scrams were introduced?

Someone really special in an Eos tried to salvage my Sleipnir alive by using 4 salvagers and 1 tractor beam. I thought my pos flying junk was going to fall apart. Fortunately I had an extra layer of duct tape that held even after the Eos exploded.

Good thing you can't salvage salvage.

I could see a use for ship-tractors, being able to pull an opponent towards you - and ship-pressors to push an opponent away from you.

The questions are:
- How big would they have to be on fitting requirements, to be balanced?
- What would their counter module be?
- What would you give up to fit one (or to fit the counter)?
- Would they be linear in strength along the full range, or have a fall-off of 1/(r*r)?
