Rigging skills V

Is there any point in training rigging skills to V ? Any specific minmatar ship I'm not aware of that would struggle with fitting/penalties from just rig IV ?

For reference I am pure minmatar and purely combat-driven.

Thanks in advance.

You should only train rigging skills to 5, if you've no others skills to train.

I actually trained Drones Rigging to V because it's useful for the Ishtar when fitted with Sentry Damage rigs. The 'tar already suffers from an excruciating lack of CPU, and the extra level of skill gives back 9 CPU. That may not sound like a lot but in fact allows quite a bit more freedom of fitting.
At the time I was using Ishtars constantly for running Serp L4 missions, so it was worthwhile.

you need some at 5 for fitting reasons, some at 5 for manufacturing.

General no. It can in some rare corner cases make it possible to fit a ship just right or even you just a bit more of an edge with a certain fit. But generally unless you've maxed out your fitting skills, and the like it's just not worth it.

I have not come across a Minmatar fit yet that requires rigging V, that however doesn't stop me from training them all to V before the end of the year. Every bit of penalty removed is a good thing.

Weapon rigging skills are fitting skills. They just don't come up on as many fits as the others.

Edit: I should add, mine are going to 5 across the board this year as well. They may not be a top priority, but they do make a difference.

Rigs with nasty drawbacks can be worth training the skill to 5.

Examples:
* Shield rigs increase your signature so you take more damage or are easier to hit.
* Astronautic rigs reduce your armor.
* Electronic Superiority rigs reduce your shield.
* Armor rigs reduce your velocity so speed tanking is less effective.

As was previously mentioned, the weapon rigs (missile, projectile, laser, hybrid, drone) are all about fitting. Having 3 rigs on a ship can mean a significant loss of CPU or grid to the drawbacks. I wouldn't train these past 4 until you need them though.

Rigging 5 is only useful to T3 subsystem manufacturers, as the basic rigs like CCC don't have drawbacks.

Eft the savings of the skill level 5 my usual advice. MAy be worth it for some fits, others not so much. Me, I have or will train some 4's only for rigs I use and call her done.

The sig radius benefit to say shield rigs numbers did not impress me. I got my 4 here for t2 rigs and will probably stay there. As minmatar you already got an edge here as some ships like say jag already has one of the lower sig radii of their class iirc. Starting with jaguar you also start slapping on larger size shied extenders as well. NOt saying don't train shield rig 5, just saying when slapping MSE on jags or LSE' on cane....you are not going to have the slimmest sig radius in the fleet. To me it seems like ordering a diet coke to go with your 2 big macs and 3 large fries for lunch.

Projectile rigging seems to be good at 4 for me. With AWU 5 and more direct fitting skills done I am not having pg issues in eft theory crafting. Wished this fixed cpu tbh...pg is not the issue I am having for mess around in eft theory crafting.

If you ever go hardcore missiles or caldari x-over you should be able to 4 launcher rigging and be fine. No fitting issues on either several tengu builds (t2 rigged) or a golem ( again t2 rigs). not seeing a reason why minny should be different.
