Hehe, I heard that on NPR the other day. I guess those responses are based on conversations cleverbot has had, and I guess unicorns have been discussed enough to make it bring it up in random conversation with another cleverbot.

They left out the section where she tells the other cleverbot that she is going to watch Brad Pitt do bad things on TV.

Probably not too much longer before the AI is good enough to have small talk in a meaningful manner.

My first thought upon seeing the title of the thread is "Botters can talk? To each other?". Then I watched the video, and got a good chuckle.

I've spent a good portion of the day seeding topics of unicorns and ponies in cleverbot Lol

The way Cleverbot works is it remembers how people respond to everything Cleverbot says. Then it regurgitates those responses when someone else says something similar. For example, if Cleverbot asks you, "How was your day?" and you answer, "It was terrible. My boss fired me," then the next time someone asks Cleverbot, "How was your day?" Cleverbot might answer by saying, "It was terrible. My boss fired me."

Basically it's just saying what other people said to it. It has nothing to do with artificial intelligence. Actually, it has more to do with the fact that smalltalk involves no intelligence whatsoever.

One amusing consequence of the way Cleverbot works is that the topic of one participant in the conversation being a robot comes up quite often. It's pretty common for Cleverbot to accuse you of being a robot. It makes me think of this comic:
