A question to all CSM candidates and CSM 6

Hello everyone!

My name is Arvids and I'm from Latvia, I'm playing EVE since 2008. I have witnesed the CSM from the start, I closely monitor the EVE development and had my share of ups and downs. Lived in hi-sec, did some living in 0.0 (including drone regions) and now I have chosen the wormholes to be my realm, and most importantly besides doing PvE, ratting and some casual PVP (well, still a noob in this question, but activly changing that) - I did and still do the mining. That's the retrospective.

Now, to cut to the chase.

Who of the candidates has thought about the EVE as the game itself, tried to figure out the inner relation ships between the game parts and how to update, fix or change them? Why I ask? Because when I see things suggested to CCP or discussed with the comunity - I see only specifics or narrow fixes of parts of the game. And absolutly no discussion about more broad things or suggestions how to overhaul things.
What makes me angry, is that I probably never saw things discussed in a prespective of the EVE world as a whole.

For example (and I have posted that to the forums) - the mining. I believe that mining can't be fixed on it's own. Period. It just can't be done (and dump idea about mini games, well, is just plain stupid) - just scimm through the ideas on the forums and try imagening what will happen if they get implemented. I predict a horror style movie when for person to mine you have to strap him down to the chair and place a chainsaw aiming at his neck and if he is not clicking the mouse one in 3-4 minutes - activate the chainsaw :D Huh, I should stop and take a breath here...

So my believe is that mining should be looked upon and redesigned together with the territory explotation, resource seeding changes and reworking the damn ice (highsec ice is just redicilous), small-medium gang PvP and the need for PvP'ers and miners to cooperate (not guarding the miners, but to distract the enemy with their own hostile actions so that miners can do their work) and drone region re-working.
This is my shortlist of how I would view that.

  1. Resource aquiring rate via mining should be higher - 4-6x time speed it is now. The reason? What is avarage players time in EVE? 1.5-2 hours? That should be the limit of how long a person should able to mine. Everything upper that that should include significan cooperation in finding the resources, moving the equipment and doing the logistics.
  2. The first should be balanced out by the resource seeding mechanics re-working. Industry upgrades should work for the constalation increasing the spawn chance in current system and lowering it in other constelation systems. There still should be the need to move inside the constalation frequently. This way you own your territory by using it, not just placing a claiming structure.
  3. Resources should deplete forsing people to fight for them. Raiding a neibours system for the resources should be a viable solution to replenish your resources (and this is why the rate of mining should go up - to be able to do "hit and run mining" in coordination with the PvP guys).
  4. Rorqual should have it's industrial core and interface revisited. Sitting for 300 seconds in the belt/grav site is suicide - the timer should be less, so that there is acctually the ability to get the hell out of there if the scout reports that a hostile gang is approaching 2-3 jumps away. For hit and run tactics that's essential.
  5. Look the mining ships. If hulk more or less does it's job (it mines, it actually is able to tank), then the Mackinaw is just a stupid joke of the developer who made it. It has 4 mid slots, but hey - you can't fit it into anything usable even with 1 ice upgrade. 2 ice upgrades? No mid slot usage at all (and let's be honest - mackinaw is usless without the ice upgrades - the hulk mines the same amout with 3 ice harvesters T2, 2 ice upgrades T2 and has room for tank. 25% penalty to the ice harvester duration? What for, why in the hell it's even there?!).
  6. The mining has to look something like this: take some time to scan down the belt, scan it for the ores (this should be also reworked, there where good ideas about scaning the belts like in planetary interaction alike interface where you make up the map of the deposits), plan it and just chew it up in a fast pase.

This is just one example how things should be thought through in a global maner, because there are things that can't be fixed by just fixing some one area. Same goes to POS'es - it's a whole complex problem with POS'es, corporation and alliance management, industry and invention. Can't fix one not touching the other.

I want to see the CSM candidates to start to care about this type of things and not just the immidiate problems. Why? Because CCP has to devote resources to these things and do the long-term development right now, so we have time to discuss it, CCP has time to get the feedback and actually to have the foundation ready for jumping full scale on it and releasing an exansion when the time comes.

I'm not running for the CSM - i'm fairly unknown person in the EVE community (I have some recognition in the russian w-space crowd, but it's small) and have no chances of getting in. I will be happy to pass the information to CSM guys if they have interest in it.
Some statments from the candidates and current CSM members would be appriciated.

Discuss.

It's a lot of words for a topic most people don't give a shit about. I'm sure you have good points but :effort:

that's what happens when you take 5 paragraphs to get to the subject of the thread: iterate mining content

Actually it's not about mining, it's about CSM not only caring about the small stuff, but also the big global stuff.
