I would suggest going ahead and doing that. Worst that can happen is VV sends it back.

25 plexes on contract to you VV. Got them for between 604 and 605 including fees.

I've also sent you another 3bil for the donation pot to round me off to 60.5bil, which should be enough for a hundred plexes Big smile

Does anyone know if these are directed donations (ie the charity must spend the money on disaster relief in the Philippines), general donations to the Philippines campaign (can be spent on adverts soliciting more donations for the Philippines, admin overheads etc) or just indiscriminate donations to the Icelandic Red Cross? This matters.

I'm not sure it does matter too much. As far as I'm aware, previous drives have always been general donations to the RC. Basically, when the RC responds to a disaster they use (initially, at least) stockpiled goods that were purchased with previous donations and their programmes run on a rolling basis. Personally, I don't see a lot of difference between them ring-fencing donations only for future use in the Philippines, or them using them to pay for the admin overheads that necessarily follow from running an organisation that is capable of helping in the Philippines and without which they wouldn't be able to do anything at all, or them using the the money to pay to replace the stockpiles that have already been used so that they will be in place for the next disaster. It's all good really and I would consider any way of donating to the RC using in-game resources to be a good thing whether there is currently a specific disaster going on or not and regardless of whether some of that money will disappear into overheads. There is, after-all, no other way to convert isk into any kind of real life benefit at all, so I'm not sure we can be too picky about our only option.

CCP Falcon's excellent response to the above question:

CCP Falcon wrote:

This is going specifically to the Icelandic Red Cross fund for Philippines relief.

There's a lot of legality surrounding a charitable drive like this that has to be taken into account, which is why it took a little more time than usual to get the ball rolling and open up for donations (I've been buried in talks and shenanigans with the amazing CCP legal team - who deserve massive hugs from everyone at next Fanfest - since Monday morning to make sure that this is all done properly).

Part of that deal is that we (CCP hf.) are a business, and as such we have to present the charity with a legal contract that specifies the nature of our donation drive, and to what cause we're donating the funds. They have to agree with this, and when we sign it we're both then legally bound in a contract that specifies where the money goes.

The result is that we now have a very robust framework in terms of both legal documentation that we can adapt to approach any charity we would like to assist with PLEX for GOOD in future, and solid community procedures for future PLEX for GOOD initiatives that we can use to respond a lot faster to this kind of situation whenever we deem it appropriate.

Part of this procedure is that we'll give a summary of the PLEX for GOOD drive once it's been completed that outlines how much we raised and where it was donated.

You can see an outline the work being performed by the Icelandic Red Cross in the Philippines at their website http://raudikrossinn.is

Hope this answers your question! Smile

Hello friends,

I have accepted 20 PLEXes from Nanatoa @600M pu on the VAERT CEO alt. Thank you for the rock bottom price!!!

This puts the remaining liquid ISK on the fund down to 1.4B.

I will greatly miss the 700M a month coming from Grendell's interests payments but Philippinos need our help NOW so I hereby authorize him to release the whole investment to VAERT corporation (not to me).

I'll anticipate at least an equal amount of ISK out of my pocket to accept the PLEXes.

You guys promptly responded to my call for PLEX therefore I feel bound to respond your generous act as promptly

We'll see to round numbers up later, with ISK coming from whoever will have some excess of it Blink

Thank you RAW 23 for your 3B donation!

Some friendly advices to those creating contracts:

1) please make SURE to include a description clearly stating it's for PLEX for Good. CCP will eventually check my account, everything is best to be as easy, linear and easily understood as possible.

2) In case you contract items (i.e. mods) please only contract them at Jita IV CNAP or maximum at Dodixie distance and in contiguous high sec to Jita.

3) In case you are vaguely thinking about setting up a fake contract, a scam contract and similar, be warned that CCP WILL perma ban your account, because we are operating in special EULA rules here. Just look at the above linked blog and read the last, bolded lines talking about CCP's stance on charity scams.

VV - I grabbed some PLEX from the market as per this request:

Quote:

If somebody with high Jita standings could please buy me some and contract them to me, I will gladly pay halfway sell - buy orders of Jita IV CNAP price to him.

They are on contract to VV. Shall I leave them up for when you get some more liquidity or are they no longer needed?

As I said I am paying upfront with my own ISK ATM.

I can take about as many again then I have to do some math.

Vahrokha, I think what you are doing is GREAT and I would like to make it perfectly clear that I trust your efforts 100%. However, there are two issues that bother me. It is not my intention to get into an argument in this post, so I’ll make my observations and leave it to that.

I understand that some people cannot afford to purchase a PLEX, so donating items and small amounts of ISK (less than a PLEX) to your cause makes perfect sense and it’s an excellent idea to get everyone involve. What I don’t understand is why are you collecting PLEXs? Shouldn’t people send the PLEX directly to ccp?

My second point is a bit more sensitive, so I do expect most people will get very defensive. There is certain individual that less than 15 days ago claimed to be broke, had no ISK, and requested a 30 B ISK bond. The same individual has now donated you 24.124 B ISK. Since you have potential audit privileges with this individual, I suggest you use it.

Good luck with your efforts.

I know you carry a grudge and that limits your capabilty to think, but you do understand the concept of selling stuff right? Like widgets being exchanged for money.
Selling stuff is not donating. For instance, my 20 widgets @ 600M are NOT a 12B donation. They're a 12B transaction; the donation is the difference between 12B and what I could've gotten (12.2B perhaps, so a 200M donation).

Block - I know you have trouble with reading comprehension but have another look at the posts and you'll see you are flat wrong (again).

a) I have donated 60bil.

b) The PLEXes I contracted were not donations.

Do you seriously not read anything properly?

Am really happy that CCP have opened this drive :)

I've liquidated assets for the VAERT sister fund that I run (CSGAMEZCF013) and am glad to report that I ended up a little more that the estimated NAV of 6,398,465,434.57 and managed to get 12 PLEXes (at around 605m each). Will donate to CCP later today and post the evidence here.

In the meantime I am also auctioning off a T2 BPO for charity. The auction will run till Dec. 1. I would be grateful for your interest and/or a friendly bump.

Any colour you like.

They could and should. This charity however exists to gather stuff outside of CCP's charity drives, when people cannot send anything to them. Then when a charity starts I have to convert ISK in PLEXes and send them to CCP.

But "converting ISK in PLEX" is not as easy as snapping two fingers. I have to buy a lot of them (and thus risk paying a lot of overprice) and also suffer from PLEX big buy - sell spread.

What those people have done in this last day or two, has been to use their maxed trading skills and Jita standings to buy PLEX on my behalf and then turning them to me at rebate prices. Better to shave a PLEX off NPC fees for a Philippino child than paying NPCs, right? Blink
That is, I am paying those PLEXes, they are not sending them as gift. Therefore, since I am paying them with money coming out of VAERT, VAERT has the right to hold those PLEXes.

The second point does not belong to this thread and should be talked about in another place. Only thing I will say is this: I have no auditing "rights" on anybody. Usually my customers give keys with expiration date, it'd be pointless to keep them, and also a rude act on their privacy.

VV, it looks like CCP is offering in-game garb (t-shirts) to the people that donate PLEX to the "CCP PLEX for Good" character, so I would expect that your character will be getting a pile of them Soon™.

Your decision at this point is whether to distribute (or *attempt* to distribute) them back to the givers, or perhaps to liquidate those shirts on the market to leverage more ISK for the charity. Please let us know what you think should be done.
