Questions

Question for Any current or Former CSM member

First General Question:
What was your impression of the CSM before you joined, then in the beginning after you were elected, and how was it at the end?

Specific Questions:
How many hours do you spend a week on your CSM duties?

How much free time were you able to spend away from the CCP when you were on summits, if you attended.

How much work as a CSM member do you do if you are an alternate?

How has your opinion of the game changed as a result of participating in the CSM?

In-regards to the NDA: are you able to talk about your feelings and opinions of topics brought up in the Assembly forum. Can you talk about the opinions of what the other CSM members have expressed?

In-regards to the NDA: can we essentially ask you anything except anything that CCP plans or has done that has not been at one time on a public test server or on the main server.

Thank You for answering my questions.

My Master Plan
I am thinking of running for CSM 8 (a year from now) but would like to gather information now before I start preparing assets for promoting my self and assist my work as a potential CSM Candidate.

IE for this next year I want to do a series of podcast delving on topics proposed in the Assembly hall. Breaking them down into their elements, weighing the Nice to haves vs the needs. Compare alternative proposals or similar features in the game. Spin some ideas off of it, and then summarize and state our opinion on it, including my guest hosts (hopefully a non- popular member of the current or past CSM possibly a A bitter vet) and ( a new or a very casual player)

I hope this will give myself a better understanding of what it is like to be CSM and provide entertainment to CSM 7 and eve community.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Someday I will have the time to play. For now it is mining afk in High sec. In Cheap ships

1) Serious Business to start and then as a joke. Faith is restored with CSM5 and reinforced during what I've seen of CSM6.

2) About 1 Hour a day for CSM4, 2 Hours a day for CSM5 apart from the end of 2010 almost all my game time was dedicated to the CSM while on the MT campaign/ awareness trail

3) For CSM4 I think I did more work that some of the full candidates although there were some token full members who never even turned up. CSM5 I spent alot of time on specific topics but had issues getting to some of the meetings which were at 4:30am for me.

4) Yup definately :) I left for 1 year during CSM5

5) As a matter of curtesy I would not bring up someone else's oppinion unless it was public knowledge or vaguely entertaining but I have no problems stating my own.

6) I was always a little hazy on what was actually NDA or not and I just used common sense, but if it wasn't public knowledge or something discussed just in a closed CSM meeting I'd treat it as NDA until minutes or release came out (or another csm member had said something).

Good luck for CSM8 :)

Awesome set of questions!! I'm hoping each of the sitting CSM6 members take the time to share their thoughts.

What was your impression of the CSM before you joined, then in the beginning after you were elected, and how was it at the end?

I didn't really have much idea of the internal workings (other than what was in the CSM document) when I ran for CSM5 -- I ran as an issue candidate with no expectation of being elected. I was very surprised at the results.

At the start of CSM5, it was fairly clear that communications with CCP were very limited; this greatly improved over the course of CSM5 and into CSM6. It was also clear that the resources available to deal with CSM/player issues were very limited, so getting the most bang-for-buck was crucial. This also slowly improved over time until the sh*t hit the fan last summer and CCP pivoted to focus a lot more resources on FiS.

How many hours do you spend a week on your CSM duties?

10-15, often more.

How much free time were you able to spend away from the CCP when you were on summits, if you attended.

On summit days, none. You typically arrive the morning of the day before summit starts, so unless you are willing to pay for extra hotel days out of your own pocket, that's when you do tourist stuff.

How much work as a CSM member do you do if you are an alternate?

Starting with CSM7, there are no alternates; it's just "top 7 available go to Iceland". Most of the mains in CSM5 made a big effort to give alternates a real voice, and this continued to evolve in CSM6. One of the hardest-working members of CSM6 was Two Step, who was an alternate.

How has your opinion of the game changed as a result of participating in the CSM?

Of course, in various ways. One thing to keep in mind: "once you find out how the sausage is made, you'll never eat it again".

In-regards to the NDA: are you able to talk about your feelings and opinions of topics brought up in the Assembly forum. Can you talk about the opinions of what the other CSM members have expressed?

Each CSM is free to express his opinions about public issues like AH stuff, subject to the limitation that we can't disclose things we know that CCP is thinking about. But to reveal the personal opinions of other CSM members (or CCP devs for that matter) would be very rude.

In-regards to the NDA: can we essentially ask you anything except anything that CCP plans or has done that has not been at one time on a public test server or on the main server.

You can ask a CSM anything, but if the answer would reveal non-public CCP proprietary information, then our reply will be that "we neither confirm nor deny the confirmation or denial that we may or may not know anything about the topic at hand."
