GCC and NPC

So, from reading another post in the forum, I remembered something odd I noticed and I can't define if it's a bug or normal behaviour.

While exploring or running missions, I sometimes engage NPCs, most of the time (with me yelling "get in range!!" at my monitor), these NPC goons fire at me first.

But, what happened to me several times already, is being GCC flagged because I engaged NPCs and hit them first, with the Criminal Countdown on the upper left corner of my screen. However, approaching gates or stations didn't provoke any concord/navy/whatever reaction, thankfully. Few times I've noticed the NPC Corp "True Power" listed as my *victim*.

So my question is: normal behaviour or odd bug?

Ok let's get a few things clear. What you're talking about is an aggression timer towards the NPC corp. It is not the same as a GCC, which is a global criminal countdown and will get you killed in highsec. The timer you got just means that the NPC faction will attack you on sight as long as the timer is active. That does include station guns belonging to that faction, but it doesn't affect anyone else. So for example aggression timers towards NPC pirates is absolutely meaningless in empire space, since their ships are all hostile anyway and they have no stations there.

I'm not familiar with the exact details of what triggers the NPC aggression, since sometimes I get it and sometimes I don't, but getting the timer is normal and the actual mechanic should be working as intended. You should see who the timer is against by moving your mouse cursor over it and I think true power is a corporation belonging to the sansha's nation faction.

Combat Timers

Shooting NPC = 15 Minute NPC Aggression Timer

This comes into effect at any time you engage an NPC entity in combat of any sort. This will cause all other NPCs belonging to that NPC's faction to become hostile to you. This is normally not an issue unless you are around solar systems where the NPC faction has stations as the sentry guns will engage you if you warp to those station with the timer active.

^ this + it can be possible you get an aggression timer towards one of the major factions while you shoot them in missions. This means if you enter their high-sec space within the 15 minutes timer they likely will shoot you on sight as they have "kill rights" for that 15minutes. So for instance you are doing a storyline for Caldari which involve killing Gallente, when you get an aggression timer (you can hover over it to see who has the aggression timer on you) it's likely that if you enter Gallente space they will open fire on you.

Not tested it out myself so not 100% certain as usually the 15 min are long past when I fly around in other faction space.

Aggression countdown towards NPC corps is only relevant in non-empire space, where that NPC corp owns stations; otherwise you can completely ignore the timer.
