Savable PI Colony Setups

Heyo,

I haven't seen anything about this on the forums and I was thinking: it would be pretty awesome if we could have preset PI colonies. Example, I like to move the following setup around to get the nodes when they come up (as some planets can't support long connections): 1x Spaceport, 1x Extractor, and 3x Basic Industry Facilities. It takes a pretty long time to rebuild them for the big nodes that pop up, and it would be great if we could save colony setups. We can save ship fits, why not planet colonies?

Anywhoo, thought I would share, see what other people thought,

Cheers,

Yes I think its a good idea. Would you be so kind and propose it in the "Features & Ideas Discussion" Forum?

Not quite sure what you are asking here, are you talking something that saves the positions of your buildings so you can 'load' a previous colony setup after you have changed it or just a list of the buildings that where used.

Great idea. You know what would also help? Being able to do multiple links at once, ie routing P0 from the spaceport to all the Processors at once, or even automatically. Placing the building isn't all that annoying to me, but redoing the links is a pain.

I want to be able to load a previous colony setup after it's been changed. I.e.: now when you take down a colony to place it somewhere else on the planet, you have to put a spaceport down, then an extractor, then some industry facilities, then connect them, then set the industry facilities, blah, blah, blah. I think it would be good if we could instead simply place 'Ice Colony Setup 1,' and place the buildings, extractors, connections, and industry settings at once.

Hope that clarifies.

I will do just that invictra. :)

The only thing I move is are the extractor control units. Though, I could see benefit in being able to save the setup of everything but ECUs. Then just slap down an ECU after loading your saved setup and done. This would work for moving to new planets very well.

It would also be nice if you could set a default run time for your ECUs so when you set up new ones it starts at, say, 1 day.

Another thing to take into consideration is that some planets (i.e.: gas) do not support long connections, so connecting an ECU to your industry facilities when they're on opposite sides of the planet isn't really possible (even with high levels of command center upgrades). In those cases, you really need to move your entire setup to the other side of the planet where the node is.

I go for a isk to effort ratio. If it's going to take me a half hour per planet of setting everything up again just for an extra % of resource gathering, it's not worth it. I could have ran a L4 mission (or 5) and just purchase the materials that I need.

It would be pretty cool if you could select multiple items on the planet's surface and just drag them to a new location. Throw in an isk cost based on distance and the facility types and call it a day. Easy functionality to add in, I wager. This would even apply to relocationg just the ECU and the extractors without having to set it all up again. Similar to your saving idea, just easier to implement since no new data needs to be saved. Only problem is that you wouldn't be able to apply the saved setup to another planet.

I bet that if CCP does this that it will come with a Bug. The camera will still zoom in on the old position of the CC.

Now, we just have to get CCP to notice this thread and do something about our request! The question is how?

CCP's lack of interest in industry changes whatsoever is painful. This is a good idea. If you figure out how to get them to notice, let me know. I have some stupidly simple changes they have never commented on: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=592080#post592080
