I am always looking to exploit rarely used tactics in eve so I am after a few educated opinions on the use of FoF and defender misslies.Shocked

I understand whtat these missiles do in paper, however my understanding is that defender missiles lack the ability to actually destroy enough of the incoming missiles to be of value. FoF missiles are something I have never tried personally, solo I see the benefits but I havent looked that far into Explo Rad, travel time etc

Anybody attempted to use these weapon systems with any success ?

Better to fit ECCM over FoF ? (My experience says yes)

Smartbombs over defender missiles ? (multiple BS with SB fitted)

As I am away from Eve currently I am unable to jump on Sisi (which kinda sucks anyway) or get on TQ and have a play.

Thanks in advance,

I've been looking into the possibility to make a anti-drake fleet defender missile spammer but they have a problem, they are based around the ROF of the launcher and thus the rocket launchers are the best. Rocket launchers on the other hand have a small cargohold so heavy assault launchers have almost 4x the cargo size and still have quite decent ROF and the ability to load good missiles.
A Drake with defenders in HAMs can cancel out the dps of 2 enemy HM drakes while dealing no dps except drones.
Defenders could be a good choice vs missile battleships but as we know they arent very popular in pvp..

And another thing, do defenders know what missiles to kill in a big drake vs drake fleet scenario? Probably not.

This is something i know is a issue for FoF missiles, if someone accidentally smartbombs a fleet member they will be seen as hostile and shot.

FoF missiles will target the closest thing that is flagged as hostile towards you. In PvP, this usually means drones which may or may not be particularly helpful to your situation. In PvE, this can mean structures inside of missions.

The only real use I have ever found for FoF missiles in PvP is for harassing the heck out of ECM boats. That Caldari ship jamming you? Load FoFs, MWD over there, and go say hello.

FoF missiles are pretty cheap, so I generally carry some of them in my cargo bay. I rarely ever use them but it's nice to have the option. Same with Javelin missiles - they're rarely ever needed, but every once in a great while that extra range is really useful and they're cheap enough that carrying some around isn't a big deal.

Have you tested this assertion in game?

Only time I have found FOF handy is when you jammed and have time to reload or missioning. Defenders work OK on electronic attack frigs sitting away from the battle, ie TP a tengu while orbiting at a distance.

I have not, its pure math but i have tested defenders so it should work as long as there is some distance between you.

Thanks for the replies so far.

i should clarify that this is for PVP applications only.

It had occured to me to use them as an anti-falcon/rook/BB weapon so nice to have some confirmation on that one.

Defenders only work on missiles being fired at you. They don't work for missiles being fired at, say, your fleet mates. Meaning they're essentially useless.

F.o.F's are usefull EMC

Both in missions and in PvP.

Defenders are a bit odd though, they are only usefull on ships that have a forgotten missile hardpoint and a pilot that has hardly any missile skills
