the only way i have seen them make frigates more viable lately is in nerfing highsec sigs,
we went out in a vexor gang of new players mostly and every sig had a gate restrictung it to frigates.

its usual way ccp solves things lately, the fastest cheapest way.

By any rational measure an individual "wins" EVE by not fighting.

There are a few exceptions where you are part of a profitable enterprise that requires defense ad conquest but even this in most cases isnt as profitable as the players think.

Don't know if you'll read this far bit if you do...

Asking 'why pvp in eve' is pretty much the same as asking 'why play eve'. I play eve cos it's fun. I pvp cos it's fun. There really is no other reason.

After all, the whole purpose of a game is to entertain you. When other aspects of eve stopped entertaining me I turned to pvp and found it to be about so much more than I ever imagined.
I too thought that eve combat was all about selecting orbit and hitting f keys. The thing is, if you don't enjoy going further down that rabbit hole then you probably won't enjoy the final destination either

Industrialists and mission runners who make all your ISK and items called, they want their subscription money back.

Because mining and hauling is boring as hell and killing bots is extremely unsatisfying.

Honestly, putting millions of dollars on the line for just a few moments in time is lots of fun and extremely satisfying.

Fair fights aren't as hard to come by as people make it out to be. Generally, rolling with a fleet of at least 10 people will get you plenty of fair fights.

Hey thanks for all the advice guys, there is certainly one sure thing i can say for eve and that's eve players seem to be the most passionate players for the game then any other I've seen

So if my idea of "winning Eve" is killing the other guy in pew-pew action, the best way to do that is to not fight? Hmm...I'll have to consider that route.

Faction Warfare can be fun. Fleet up and destroy the evil frogs (or silly pies).

When I'm solo, PVP is more fun in the avoidance of it. The most fun I have in this game is venturing out into dangerous space, avoiding some of the most clever mobs in any MMO, and coming back with my cargohold stuffed with treasure. I don't sell or even use the stuff. My deadspace mods are like trophies. :-)

I think one of the best things about EvE is people can define their own victory conditions. My rational measure of winning at EvE is being ranked highly on Battleclinic. From that perspective certain activites that cost a fair bit of ISK but generate a lot of points (like this weekend's suicide ganking spree in Tash Murkon Pirate, which cost about 500M when all was said and done since I purchased an Orca specifically for that purpose, ofc I still have the Orca so future ops won't be so spendy, but I digress...) move me closer to winning. But if you think winning is having a lot of ISK, then that doesn't make much sense at all. If you accept that other people have their own agendas and their own way of going about them, the actions of people who have a different playstyle than you suddenly make a lot more sense.

because dropping 20+ bombers on an alliance FC scouting his fleet home and blowing him up in 10seconds is realy fun, especially as his 100man gang jumps in as we're clearing local :D

I'll give you some helpful advice Shocked Join a decent PvP corp - whether it be 0.0, low sec or high sec PvP. You can see whether there a decent corp by doing a simple google search on their name.. There killboard will come up and you can see how often they do PvP, whether they do small gang or blob and where abouts they do all this.. Then after you've done all of that you can choose to join or simply leave it. Most PvP corps are happy to take newer players since you're pretty much a blank slate - you can train towards skills/ships that would be most beneficial to the corp. Plus in the meanwhile some extra tackle is always helpful.

High Sec corps PvP to defend their POS, merc for money or grief for money OR grief for the sheer hell of it.
Low Sec PvP corps just like to blow the **** out of everything.Twisted
0.0 corps PvP to defend their space.

And then theres WH corps.. But they tend to be pretty elite and hardcore imo so I'd start with one of the above first.

Just have a look about and see what suits you best.. getting into a decent corp should be of no concern. Most good PvP corps have a "Training/University" corp anyway.

Ultimately PvP is the endgame of eve.. Whether it is to control a profitable system, or to just build up your reputation as a decent PvPer. Even as a successful industrialist you'll ultimately be engaging in PvP because there will be others who will want to take your business/undercut you at every oppurtunity. There are plenty of practical uses for PvP (it's not completely pointless.) But personally I just PvP because I find it enjoyable.. Theres nothing better than small gang warfare, just wait until your on the winning side - you'll never look back. Good luck!

Only thing stoping you from pvping is the thought that you can't.

oh and the single best reason for doing it, because you find it fun.

The fun in fighting might be the smugness that comes with knowing player behaviors and game mechanics well enough that you can readily identify both the other guy's piloting fuckups and his ship's weaknesses and then exploit these to your advantage. The icing is that you get to keep his stuff because you are smart and he is dumb.

Or maybe you get off on humiliating the loser in local.

Or it could just be doing something with your internet space brosefs a little more adventurous than shooting rocks. All sorts of opportunities and crazy **** happens outside of highsec.

Personally, after spending my first year grinding missions and even ******* mining, the thought of ever doing that again sickens me.

But yeah, I'm gonna parrot the "Join RvB" thing. You will have fun while learning game mechanics (on the cheap with cheap-fit T1 frigates). You will like fighting. It's the only redeeming feature of this game, tbh.

You should PvP to get out that male angst driven need to prevail over someone else so your insecurity complex can be assuaged for a few minutes. It must feel good to get out from under that "I'm a nobody" feeling.

Yes, just ask Charlie Sheen. It's WINNING.

We must accommodate the idiocracy.

Why pvp? Why do people play baseball, football (american or international versions) or tennis? Why do some race cars, motorcycles or bicycles? It's all for the fun and competition.

Some people get their enjoyment out of shooting NPCs or rocks, and I have no problem with that. I've done that and it can provide a level of enjoyment. But it's kinda like going to the batting cage versus playing a game of baseball. The batting cage pitching machine throws the same kind of pitch over and over without using any kind of "strategy" to fool you. In a live game, it's real competition, though, where the pitcher is trying to do things to make you fail, and you are trying to succeed in beating his team. While it can be fun to spend some time in the cage, it just doesn't compare to the real game.

I've never driven a race car, but I'll bet that driving laps around a track, trying to beat your previous best time can be a challenge and be some fun. But when you have 15 other drivers out there bumping, blocking, and trying to pass you, I bet it's a whole lot more fun.

That's why I pvp. I love the tactical strategy and maneuvering, especially the "sneak". The gathering of intel, guessing about how the other guy is fit (standard setup or does he have an oddball fit that might be a perfect counter to me?), who he might have as backup, how he will react when I decloak next to him, etc. Shooting rats in a mission or site just doesn't have the same element of the unknown. They always react the same way and are always fit the same way.

Ultimately, it is all a game. In real life I would never be the mean jerk. I'm about as nice a guy as you would ever meet and I'll go far out of my way to help you in any way I can. But EVE is a game where nobody actually gets hurt, and I'm gonna do everything in my power to beat you down and win. If I fail and you win, nice job. I'll go home (or wake up in a clone vat) with a smile on my face, knowing that I entered the competition rather than sitting in the stands. I'll learn my lesson and be better prepared for the next time.

It's all pixels and fun.
