Preping miners for hulkagaddon.

If you got hulkageddon problems, I feel bad for you son. I got 99 problems but my miner ain't one.

Now that that's out of the way.

If you don't want to get popped in a hulk, but a covetor. They mine about 90% as fast as a hulk with all skills at 5 (which if you're mining in a hulk, they should be). 33m loss instead of the now 350m loss.

Get out of highsec. Go find a large alliance or at least one that knows what it's doing down in nullsec. You can mine to your hearts content as long as you have someone to deal with the rats, or if you have a second account with a combat char on it, you can dual box and mine by yourself.

When it comes to gankers vs miners I know what side I'm on. I personally think hulkagaddon should be scrapped. But 5 years on and it's still going. Hulkagaddon will come as sure as night follows day. So this thread is for all my fellow miners out there that want help setting up and getting ready for the dark days to come. I'm asking for other fellow miners to post successful mining tips during combat situation. Can you really tank a hulk for high sec? Will a covetor be a better idea. Is it better to invest in warp core stabilisers or shield hardeners? Is a fleet of ECM drones with 1 combat drone any good if you did need to go afk for any reason. What would you recommend to give another miner that edge for when the lights start blazing ?

Hulks are selling at 314m in Jita, which is just insane, so I built myself some Covetors which are a tenth the price.

As for a tanked Hulk (don't forget to overheat the hardeners if attacked, or suspicious, they last about 2m):

Are you a paranoid miner?
Do you spend all your time mining asteroids?
Do you fear the upcoming 'Hulkageddon'?

Then have I got a message for you:

"Don't Panic!"

Yes! For just a few seconds stop and turn on your brain and consider the size of the EVE universe. Pretty damn big isn't it?

"But Muppet, they know where I mine!"

Well friend, let point your asteroid shaped burned retinas to this map... See this, this, and this? Those are called TRADE HUBS. If you are within four jumps of them, Hulkageddon or not, you are asking to get ganked.

"But if I go more than four jumps from the trade hub we waste time hauling or have our profits cut!"

You are aware that there are NPC manufacturing hubs outside of four jumps of the trade hubs right? You can sell your minerals or metals there and actually make a decent profit right?

"But Muppet, it is my money and I want it now!"

(sigh) Please just get away from the trade hubs.

"But Muppet, we are more than four jumps from the trade hubs!"

Ok, what race controls your region?

"Caldari of course"

OK, rule two: stay out of Caldari space, for some reason gankers LOVE Caldari. All I can figure is that they love snails for dinner but spellcheck using a Ouija board.

"But Muppet, I spent a lot of isk for this ship and a Tornado can pop it in a single shot!"

The is EVE idiot. If they REALLY want to kill you they can. Fit a tank and pay attention!

"But Muppet, if I fit a tank I can't mine as much or haul as much, it will hurt my profits!"

FUKUNG is down you idiot, you can still pay attention can't you?

"But Muppet, if I have to pay attention I might miss the action filled scene of my movie. You don't expect me to actually pay attention to mining do you?"

(sigh) No, I expect you to die. I would like to thank you in advance for helping drawing fire away from the other miners during this event. I must commend you in your efforts to be in several kill mails during Hulkageddon, you patronage is the sign of a true devotee of EVE Online.

This message brought to you by Experience(tm). When common sense fails you, experience will come to the rescue. Experience(tm) from the makers of CONCORD.

Actually this years Hulkageddon will be intersting to observe.

I've never had any love for miners as at previous income rates, they all used to be bots, macros or some weirdos operating 20 accounts at once so I wasn't too unhappy whenever one was ganked (although I never did it - only ships I personally suicide-ganked were Tengus).

With increasing ore/min/ship prices and banned bots there'll be human miners again and it will be more apparent that gankers are biting the hand that feeds them.

It wont change the good people organizing the events as their interst was profiting from the event to begin with, but it will be interesting to see if the number of drooling idiots falling for them and doing the dirty work will be diminished.

Or you could fly the below ships and laugh at the catalysts that come to gank you. Course if you see tornado's I'd recommend that you GTFO.

If you do not know what to do then try to have fun. Take your mining ship and see if you can get through to Jita in a barge or an exhumer. I bet you will not be able to. So get a few barges, they are cheap, and try a few times until you succeed. This should be hilarious.

Loss is meaningful. Therefore is the loss of meaning likewise meaningful. It is the source of all trolling.

Surviving ganks is easy.

Always be aligned.

Only thing this is not very effective for is Ice mining... and if you do such actively, you have my pity.

You can tell Hulkageddons on the way when youre selling loot from a mission and all the passive targetters and smartbombs are selling at 75% or higher of average

Generalities easily turn one into a lair. I've been a miner my whole career, during mineral market crashes and high mineral bull markets.. no, I never botted, ran a macro... or used more than 3 accounts at once. Most ganker/griefers demonize their targets to make themselves feel better about being the bully.. but that's just human nature I suppose.

Step one: Dock
Step two: Go mission running.
Step three: Once the prices hit the roof, which they will in a week or 10 days after the inferno is released, sell all ore supply i have for huge profit.
Step four: Be rich and dance while laughing like a lunatic on a pile of cash.

I love EVE.

The average hulk pilot has changed, too. When I started EVE, the hulk was considered the end-game of any industrial character, the apex of your achievements that every Bantam-Miner dreamed about but only very few had hopes to ever achieve....

Nowadays, mining corps tell their newbies to train straightly to the hulk and skip every other skill, and promise to hand them out the hulk once they have the skills to use them.
Your average (human) hulk pilot today is a 2-3 months old newbie with about 5 M SP, all in mining, and no clue about the game.

Ganking those creatures would make me feel small and miserable, but the good thing is that I don't have to.
With t2 strip miners selling for above 6 M in my region now, it is like getting a 10 M bounty on any hulk destroyed...so please, carry on!

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

Making 2-3B a month in a completely AFK setup certainly sucks.
