^ Don't approach that way, else we'd have to conclude that all ships in EVE are fail designs just like WWI tanks compared to modern.

I know its been talked about a lot, but the Scorpion still to me is probably the most attractive ship. You could include the Widow in that being the same basic design. I agree the Hawk/ Worm / Merlin are excellent as well, at least to my eye.

Yes, it's because they are well designed.

Raven is a cool looking ship with a tumor, it's one of those ships that walks the fine line of PASS/FAIL

I have nothing against asymmetric design but it should also follow the three basic rules

1. Easy to tell front from back.
2. Variation of scale of modules and easy to tell scale of ship JUST BY LOOKING.
3. Believable design.

Scorpion actually has a little RADAR rotating which I think is a nice touch.

Where is the engine room, where is the gravimetric sensor located, where is the targeting system located on ships, what about the capacitor batteries???
If these were actually part of the design we would have more believable ship designs.

currently all we can see are turrets, great start but what about the rest?

Location of Scorpion radar is total fail if you look at it from a real life perspective (figure it out yourself).

The only gripe I have is the scale of ships, like you have said some don't feel as big as they should be.

Well, yes it would bounce off the hull which is not very useful but hey at least it's there rotating. I'm giving them credit for making ship parts that are relevant to fittings.

I agree that figher bomber design you mentioned is just pure win and most frigates and even cruisers should be designed like that.

But I also agree with other poster saying that not all asymmetric ships MUST look like s.h.i.t. An perfect example would be Raven hull, which is quite imba looking, or Osprey, Atron which are decent too. But I agree that 90% of asymetric ships in game looks really poor and their design doesnt make sense at all (Moa, Blackbird, 99% of minmatar ships).

If we are about ships scale, curious if you found that some ship models were clearly designed to be totally different size than they currently are. An perfect example could be, once again, Raven which had big cockpit visible for years (recently repainted to lame LEDs) that for sure was supposed to be cruiser hull at best.
Another example - Megathron, whose design makes perfect sense for frigate. These ships definitely looks too light to be battleships. Real heavy BS style, which has its heavy feeling are amarr battleships, mostly abaddon/apoc. Not even talking about amarr freighter which looks like flying station (really awesome design btw).

The Scorpian/Widow is gimmicky but still very cool looking. I bought a Widow a looong while back that I am (and have been for a while) a month away from qualified for due to race battleship. But one day... One day I'll fly that bad boy around reign black ops terror! :)

Haha funny thing I found a "MaxPassengers" line in pyfa in ship's attributes)) 450 for BC vessels. Guess they have crew.

Yep. Lore says (from ooollllld Chronicles and ooolllld short story (Jovian Wetgrave I believe) that cruiser and up require some crew to function, though not nearly as much as a non-capsuleer vessel. Think bare minimum skeleton crew for capsuleers.

Capsuleer frigates require none, as most non-capsuleer frigates have a crew of...3 to 20? Don't quote me on that.
