The Rogue Drone Division of the Arek'Jaalan Project is intended to study Rogue Drones to expand our knowledge of Independent Drone Technology to help us attempt to understand Sleepers, and although the Rogue Drones may not ultimately offer answers directly relating to the Sleepers, research into them is likely to deepen our understanding of Sleeper Drone technology, and perhaps by virtue of that, something else.

Division Goals

  • Study the history and technology of Rogue Drones, and also analyze the numerous theories of them.

  • Compare Sleeper Drones and Rogue Drones and find similarities between them.

  • Investigate the nature of Drone Hives and the behavior of individual drones within the Rogue Drones society.

  • Archive all known contacts with the Rogue Drones, as well as the official files of them.

  • Obtain all available Rogue Drone materials for study.

Our Research is currently focused into Four Research Projects which are as follows.

Project Omicron

Project Omicron is to try and establish two way communications with the Rogue Drones, to find common ground as a prelude towards full Diplomatic negotiations and ultimately an Alliance, failing that to interview them for as much information as possilbe on their origins, purpose, needs and possible connections to Sleepers and Sleeper Drones. This project is further broken down into Five research areas.

  • Communication Protocols.
  • This research is focused on establishing a number of standardised communication protocols for use in our attempts to communicate with the Rogue Drones.

  • Agenda and Questions For Rogue Drones.
  • This research is focused on to trying to form a clear Agenda for when dealing with Rogue Drones and to work out in advance the types of questions we should ask.

  • Standardised Enquiry Responses For Rogue Drones.
  • This research is focused on us trying to anticipate the possible questions that Rogue Drones might ask us during any successful communication and to prepare consistant standardised responses in return.

  • Current Rogue Drone Communications.
  • This research is focused on documenting and analysing any ongoing communications with Rogue Drones. Including Strange Transmissions From Dead End.

  • Historical Rogue Drone Communications.
  • This research is focused on gathering, documenting and anaylsing any previous Rogue Drone communcations that may of occured and see if any conclussions can be drawn from them.

Project Omega

Project Omega is to investigate the nature of Rogue Drone Hives and Structures. The purpose and functions of these structures should be observed (preferably via covert means as so not to disturb the Hive from its normal routines), to see how they are involved in the day to day tasks performed by the Hive and to see what can be learned about their society by recording how the various drone types interact with one another and other Hives where possible. It also studies the software of the Rogue Drones, to study its intelligence and its psychology. The Rogue Drone A.I. will be compared to current A.I.'s used in our drones to see if we can identify the differences in the software code that give them their independence and intelligence. This process is the second vital part us being able to comparing Rogue Drones to Sleeper Drones to look for any parallels or shared software.

Project Rho

Project Rho is an attempt to gather information on all types of Rogue Drone hardware, from the smallest to the largest Drone and compile it into the Rogue Drone Database. Once this database is complete a full study of all construction techniques will be undertaken to see what can be learned about Rogue Drone evolution. In addition the capacity and performance of all the various drone types will be analysed and compared to current Capsuleer ship class equivalents as a meassure of their effectiveness of design. This process is a vital part us being able to comparing Rogue Drones to Sleeper Drones to look for any parallels or shared technology.

Project Theta

Project Theta attempts to create new Capsuleer technology by studying Rogue Drone materials. The technologies to be constructed will only be created for the express purpose of furthering the RD Divisions ongoing research goals and to aid other Divisions in their research. Technology will be limited to, A.I.-cores, comm systems, modules and rigs. Project Theta does not intend to create destructive technology, but rather a set base for future inventions. The goals of the Project will be fulfilled by studying known Rogue Drone technology and finding new unknown ones, and reverse-engineering them. A special interest of the project are Spatial Rifts, and the forces that operate them.

Rogue Drone History

Rogue Drone history stretches back over almost 100 years, and as such there have been many incidents and events in that time. The major events are detailed in depth alongside a timeline to help put them into context.

Spectrum Breach

The initial expansion into what has now become known as the Drone Regions was first attempted by the Gallente Federation under what it dubbed Operation Spectrum Breach, which officially began on standard date 88.05.19. Seeking to use its vast drone fleets and incorporating the latest advances in drone technology it quickly created Stargates connecting them to the new regions. Initial probes into the unexplored space confirmed a large portion of gateable systems and a wealth of minerals, and construction soon began.

However four months after the first Stargate was commissioned the worker drones at the project's main outpost went berserk, killing hundreds. Reports of Rogue Drone attacks from within all eight regions surfaced concurrently and an evacuation of the new systems was ordered, facilitated by the Gallente Federal Navy. The Gallente Federal Government, assisted by the unknown corporation (suspected to be CreoDron) quickly locked the access gates to the new regions.

Code Aria Inquiry

The investigation by CONCORD in the Infested Regions was the result of an unauthorised gate activation in November of Y.C.108 resulting in the opening of the Drone Regions. Suspicion was cast heavily on CreoDron in the leaked document known as the Code Aria Inquiry that they were the corporation who had been responsible for the initial creation of the self-aware artificial intelligence that the Rogue Drones possess. This was in violation of Concord directive omega-one-five, that artificial intelligence should not be capable of becoming self aware.

The Orphyx Program

It is not known when exactly the Orphyx program took place or what the Orphyx program end goals were due to the heavy censorship of information by CONCORD but what is understood is the researchers were using radical new programming techniques alongside the latest cutting edge hardware to create an advanced artificial intelligence drone that seems was intended to operate below the threshold of sentience and thus avoid Concord directive omega-one-five.

At some point near the programs completion the drone appears to have self activated and gone on the rampage, killing many people and causing extensive damage before apparently leaving the research station via an airlock. The Orphyx program is of particular note due to so many of subsequent rogue drone incidents seeming to involve researchers who had worked on this project. The current whereabouts and status of the Orphyx drone are unknown.

Rogue Drone Timeline

This timeline is quite long, and as such it will not be reproduced here but can be viewed on our research page by following the above link, thank you.

Thought it was best to get the ball rolling and collect all the Rogue Drone Division materials under one Heading for ease of access for the rest of the community, with the updated GALNET i could not resist. Hopefully others will follow suit with the other divisions as well, the higher our public profile is the better I believe

Good to hear from you Hilen I hope you are well, it just seemed like good sense to keep everything compiled in one place to make public access easier.

That is good news about those answers, hopefully they will open up new avenues of inquiry for us.

I hope your time has been as productive as mine and we will talk again soon once you are more available again.

Very nice, But rougue drones are one thing, do you intend on studying sleepers? I have had many encounters with them merely for there market value back in the empires but I would like to more about them. Back to your database. I believe the universities of New Eden will be getting in contact maybe one day

Zanziba'ar,

Its not my intention to study Sleeper Drones directly at this time as that is the role of the Arek'Jaalan's Sleeper Divisions, both History and Technology. My work is focused on the efforts to analyse Rogue Drones and make that information available to the other Division in Arek'Jaalan and everyone else in the general community who may have an intrest.

Once I have completed all our various Research Projects I might then assist the Sleeper Divisions in their research but that is some way off yet as there is still a huge amount of work to be done on Rogue Drones.

Investigations of Rogue Drones has been a personnel project of mine for quite some time, the Arek'Jaalan Project just gave me the opportunity to bring my research and ideas to a wider audience then it might of otherwise achieved. And if any universities or institutes wish to get in contact with me or use any of the Projects resources then they are free to do so as Arek'Jaalan is an open Project, free for all to use.
