After extensive testing and the addition of many new features we are pleased to bring back the new EVE Forums. These new features include a compact view, a character dropdown list to keep you in contact with your fellow forum friends, the highly anticipated hide posts option, RSS Feeds, new search functions, and a selection of backgrounds to customize your EVE Gate and forum experience. In addition, you are now able to easily keep track of the activity on EVE Gate and the new forums using the new Notifications function. Full details of these additions can be found in the patch notes.

The old forums will remain active until Friday, September 9, to not disrupt any ongoing discussions. We will not be deleting the old forums so don’t worry about losing your favorite posts!

Below is a list of the newest forums features:

Once you go into a thread, it's all fairly straight forward. Each post shows the avatar picture and name. In addition, we have also included few new features:

• Compact view

Forum users have an option to view threads in a Compact view. The View settings are located in the thread title bar where you can easily switch between them. Once you set your view of choice, it stays that way until you change it again. The Avatar image has been reduced from size 128x128 to 64x64 and all other character information can be accessed by clicking the user name

• Badges

DEV, GM, CSM, ISD and External Partner characters have a colored badge overlay on their avatar. Additionally DEV and GM badges have been added on EVE Gate profiles

• Character dropdown list

When clicking on the character name, you will get a dropdown list of handy links and information to help you keep in contact and follow your Forum friends and trolls. You can now via one click send an EVE Mail to a Forum user, show all his Forum posts or simply go directly to his EVE Gate profile. The dropdown list shows you the name and logo of the Corporation/ Alliance he or she is a member of and the number of Likes he has received overall. It also provides the ability to HIDE posts from characters that you simply don’t wish to see.

• Hide posts

By clicking “Hide posts” in the Character dropdown list, all posts by this specific user will appear hidden on the Forums. Yes, you heard me right. If someone is leaving you steaming and stomping every time you go onto the Forums, you can simply HIDE the user’s posts. The posts will then appear collapsed. You will see if the hidden user posts a reply in a thread and can choose to read it by clicking “View post”. If you feel ready to unhide the posts you can click “Show posts” which will then make all posts by that user visible again.

• Quick Reply

For the ever busy amongst you, we have included a Quick Reply that will allow you to post a reply to a thread without loading a reply page with full formatting options.

• Like

Each post has a Like button. This allows you to Like a post. Once a post has been Liked, you'll see a running total of Likes received and also an option to Unlike if you change your mind. Underneath each poster's avatar there is a running total of the number of Likes they gave to posts and the number of Likes they have received for their posts. In the channel view you can see the total number of Likes for each thread, quickly highlighting hot topics.

• RSS Feeds

On the front page, in channel view and within threads, basically on every page - there is a link at the bottom of the page to subscribe to an RSS Feed for that page. This will make it much easier for you to follow what's going on in the forums by receiving updates in your favorite RSS reader application.

• Favorites

Each thread has an option to "Tag as Favorite", adding it to your Favorites page where you can easily find it again and quickly spot any new activity.

• Search

Admittedly, the old forum search function was not up to modern standards. It is our hope however, that the search function of the new forum will be a giant leap forward. Advanced search options currently include search by character, topic name, channels and DEV/GM posts. You are also able to bookmark your search criteria for later or subscribe to an RSS Feed of your search criteria.

• Based on usability feedback given during public testing, the team has done a lot of UI tweaks touching font size and color, tooltips, quotes, buttons, design, security and performance. We will hopefully keep receiving valuable feedback from you.

• Forum Settings

Forum settings will be in your EVE Gate profile settings page with the usual options for toggling corporation/alliance information and your signature.

• Activity Notifications

The Activity Notifications lets you know when you have interesting activity happening on EVE Gate and Forums. The alerts appear in the notification icons found in your EVE Gate header; as real time popups, and for those moments you are busy looking at another site - you can see the number of new activity in your EVE Gate or Forum browser tab.

The Mail Icon notifies you when you have new unread mail. Clicking it will take you straight to your EVE mail.
The Notification Flag shows you how many new activities you have on EVE Gate and the forums. Clicking the flag gives you a dropdown listing your new activities and takes you straight to them. At the bottom of the notification dropdown list you find a link to your Activity Notification page where all notifications are listed by date.

Players will be notified of the following activities in real time:

  1. When somebody posts on your wall.
  2. When somebody comments on your wall post.
  3. When somebody comments on a post other character has made on your wall.
  4. When somebody posts a reply to a forum thread you subscribe to.
  5. When somebody likes your post on the forums.
  6. When you receive an event invitation.
  7. When you receive new EVE Mail.
  8. In your EVE Gate profile settings you can customize which notifications you receive.

• Personalized backgrounds

You can now choose from a selection of backgrounds in your EVE Gate profile settings. You can have a different background for each of your characters. Players can personalize their EVE Gate backgrounds in their EVE Gate Profile Settings.

Related to the background list, could you add a full black background? It would be useful for those who use a phone or have a mobile connection to reduce bandwidth costs.

Whats the difference between compact and not compact ? Its just a smaller picture with a lot of space around, thats what i cant really call compact, still a lot of wasted space.

So, here we are again with a font size so small that I can barely read it with my glasses on. Why CCP is it so damn difficult for you guys to work out such a simple thing as a decent font size? Seriously? Why is it so small in nearly everything you do? It's asinine that the "forum settings" have no way to modify the standard font. In fact, the forum settings section has exactly 3 options, which is entirely laughable. Fail.

I actually did not think you would manage to get it running before the weekend... Oops

Still, if it manages to break within the next couple of days I will claim my predictions true.

Can we get the option for none? Not picking holes but it sounds like a low investment of time to provide that option :)

How do we increase the number of items on a page or even change pages? I have 8 items on the page (Home » EVE Forums » EVE Marketplace » Timecode Bazaar) and no way to go to additional pages. I'm in Windows 7, Chrome browser.

Just lurv the 'quick reply' feature.

I'd like to have the compact view feature even more compact, please. Reduce the line spacing between paragraphs?

And that bloody door! Now it's even followed me onto the forums - is there no escape from it?

Still getting white screens when going from the forums to other parts of evegate.

When reading a devpost selected from the quick devpost page. I cannot just back up one page to go back to where i was on the
devpost list.

Please have the devpost quick search remember where you where if possible.

Devblog comments even on the 5 that are sticked here still go back to the old forums.

Where do you want offical feedback here or in the 1.1 feedback deploy sticky right now it is everywhere.

A MOTD for the forus only when you log in might be a good thing to add

Graying out the reply tab when you are posting a quick post might be a good idea too :)

more announcemetn flags at the top for devblogs announcements and devposts.

If i dont know something about EVE. I check https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/ISK_The_Guide

See you around the universe.

Nice to see that any performance issues stayed on the testing server. The new forums feel very quick to load.

Also, I was using the quick reply and I just pressed "Reply" instead of "Post" by mistake and lost what I had typed (going back did not keep what I typed in the quick reply). If I'm using the quick reply and press reply, it should copy whatever I've written to the full editor on the next page. Also, on most sites "going back" will preserve what you have typed in form inputs and textareas; there must be some javascript that is interfering with this.
