Hey all,

I enjoy station trading but also want to start manufacturing (presumably buying ore cheaply and making stuff) - is it viable to do all of that on one char?

For example, whilst things are building could I stattion trade to ensure I'm maximising profit? Thanks

Considering it takes 2 weeks to build some ships... I think one had better be able to do something else in the meantime.

OR did I completely misunderstand something here.................

Nope you didn't misunderstand at all :) I'm still few new but only really interested in the economy side of the game rather than PVP! is it viable to have fun in the game without ever venturing into PVP and PVE? Thanks

It is possible to have fun without PVP but sitting in station all day updating orders will get boring pretty quick; at least it does for me. You could always do some PVE (missions) on the side as it will help your standings and lower broker fees or grind faction to farm datacores. Or once you get some decent skills/ships run incursions when you have nothing to do.

Manufacturing can be done on 1 character but once you get a few billion you will find you have alot of ISK left sitting in your wallet unless you build BS or something. So in no time you will be wanting more characters for manufacturing. I usually run 20-30 slots and pull in 400+mil/day but I can't stand sitting in station trying to sell the stuff (.01 ISK wars FTW) so I only do it a few days/month until my accounts are PLEXed and PVE the rest of the time.

Before you make anything though research the market and see what's profitable to make and start training "Spreadsheets" to level 5 Blink The bottom line is do what is fun for you.

You can do it all!

Build a ship that can handle you day trading mid mission.

Start your manufacturing.

Get your mission in same region as a major trade hub.

Now you are missioning/trading/manufacturing all at once.

No other toon needed the isk will stack up.

Things to keep in mind:

You can use the reprocessed goods from the missions to have ore for your manufacturing.
Missions will improve your standings to make trading cheaper.
Build what you use to keep your cost even lower ((ammo))
Use the LP to get blue prints to manufacture.

Sometimes the jack of all trades can make more then the master of one. Either way it's a lot more fun.

For what it is worth, my top research and manufacturing character started out doing only that, but grew so he also:

* Pilots a Charon freighter (practically lives in it) and a Rhea jumpfreighter.
* Hauls in a Bustard deep space transport (DST) when I'm mining.
* Pilots a Basilisk (plus Logistics 5).
* PvPs in a Falcon or a Scorpion (no weapon skills required).
* Does level 4 missions in a Tengu (has great standing with Caldari Navy for Jita trading).
* Picks up BPO and skill books from ORE in nulsec in a Tengu.
* Is a POS gunner (Starbase Defense).
* Does PI.
* Can refine and reprocess anything with 100% yield.
* Is a trader (usually uses a Crane blockade runner when going between trade hubs).

The one notable thing he never trained is mining, as I have other dedicated mining characters (a whole fleet of them).

When I was living completely in w-space, he was the system anchor, so he has probing skills too. When I moved my industry to hisec, he became the corp's POS janitor, keeping all the towers fueled.

I really don't know how people can get bored with EVE when just my simple lab rat character has so much he can do.

Yes, it is quite viable! At ATI, we've been doing just that for years. EVE offers an excellent business simulation; the crafting, market and economic elements of the game are unparalleled in the mmo industry. And if and when you need a break from that, you can always create another character to go blow stuff up with!

It is definitely viable.

Oh and welcome to market PVP (or did you think that station trading was not the start of PVP?)

With a few exceptions (namely, I don't fly Caldari) ... sounds a lot like my toon...
