Either that svipul was the first guy on him or they are OP. I kind of wonder why people don't attempt to make battleships that kill smaller ships.

Oh, I perfectly understand, Hal Morsh — a mission like this requires courage, skill, and heroism… qualities you are clearly lacking. Have you forgotten you're one of the bloody immortals!?

He was in bastion when we landed.

Svipul was shield boost/cap injected so one heavy neut is not a big deal and he wasn't going to break my Deimos in a hurry. We tag teamed to station a few times to get more cap boosters as well whilst we dragged some friends over for extra dps. To be honest he would have died with just the two of us eventually after he ran out of cap boosters but would have taken forever.

I used to fit up BC's with small guns and webs to kill entire fleets of frigs.

We had a Catalyst roam scheduled a weeks back which optimistically included some logistic ships. Only having 6 pilots at our disposal though we just slapped some AARs on and headed on our merry way to die in fire.

The roam was quiet for the most part and it was not until we jumped into Covryn that we met our first juicy targets. Two Proteus sat on the out gate with a Tengu between them creating quite the sandwich. We jumped and gave them time to engage us but only one decided to so we jumped back in a vain attempt to split them.

Sure enough the other Proteus jumped back and took a pot shot at the nearest catalyst. Now at this point I think its time to reflect and fully appreciate the gravity of the situation this Proteus just put himself in. Between us we do over 3,000 dps and even with his 86% thermal resist he was in for a very, very bad day.

"Hose him lads" erupted from our illustrious FC and the now wide eyed Proteus instantly realised his peril as he fruitlessly tried to burn to gate.

https://zkillboard.com/kill/46752249/

Hindsight being 20/20 he could have probably just burnt a few of us down considering he had dual webs, which would have potentially brought the dps to a manageable level. The loot was sold back to him and the profits shared out in true pirate fashion.

He fired a few volleys then instantly stopped attacking presumably to try to last 60 seconds. I believe he had a miscommunication error with the other Proteus and did not know he was stuck on the other side.

Derelik: Mistakes were made (a story in two acts)

I live in Gamis, and we have recently gotten a lot of new people moving in who don’t know the game mechanics very well. This has given me the opportunity to get some decent stories which may make an interesting read.

(since my writing style is usually too long, Tl:drs have been included for your conveinience Smile)

ACT 1: Lowsec
After having some success in lowsec, I was rudely awakened to my low sec status when I tried to visit a trade hub in a somewhat expensive T3. I survived, but was a bit shaken up and decided to try to repair it. I went next door to Bekirdod and decided to try running some sites in my Zealot. After finishing the last site in system I decided to move on to a nearby highsec system. As I jumped the gate into highsec, and was aligning out when… wait, what’s this?

There was a providence sitting at 0 on the gate into lowsec.Shocked
He hadn’t jumped, and there was a stiletto orbiting him fast. At this point, I got very excited. I had never seen a freighter on a lowsec gate before. Without thinking, I burned back to gate in my zealot and jumped back into lowsec, determined to catch him if he jumped. This was foolish of me, but he didn’t seem to notice and I thought he might be afk. I realized my kite zealot couldn’t hold the freighter (despite having a point) because of gate guns, so I gambled. Gamis was 1 jump away. With any luck I could reship into something tankier before this provi decided to jump. For all I knew could could have been afking on that gate for hours. I rushed back to gamis and logged in my alt to provide some more dps.

My gamble paid off. I shipped into a legion and cloaked it on the lowsec side, relieved to not see him in local. The stiletto jumped in, clearly a scout for this providence. I kept my alt in a rattlesnake 1 jump out, to be brought in once tackle was confirmed.
I waited.
The stiletto jumped back and forth, waiting for me to leave local.
I still waited. This guy seemed impatient to enter, and he would hopefully make his move sometime.

7 minutes later, he did. The provi, stiletto, and a retriever jumped the gate all at once. I jumped my alt into local, and had him warp to the gate. I grabbed the provi, and all seemed to be going well. My legion could tank gate guns indefinitely, and the rattlesnake would bring 1500 dps.
Of course, nothing in Eve is ever that easy.

My rattlesnake lands, but in my haste I had clicked “jump” on the gate instead of “warp to 0”. I watch helplessly as my rattlesnake jumps into highsec, leaving my legion holding the provi on the other side. I finally burn back to gate and bring the rattlesnake on grid. I volley the retriever, and get secondary scram on the provi. This guy is going nowhere.
But I had made a serious mistake. I instinctively feared that the provi would have backup of some sort (Perhaps a cyno on the stiletto) and had my rattlesnake hug the gate, ready to de-agress if things turned south. As a result, I wasn’t bumping the provi, and had negliected to bring webs….

As the provi reached structure, it disappeared.
I was speechless. I had underestimated the speed of a slowboating freighter. So foolish. So bad at this game.Cry I would never get another chance. The provi pilot would never try a stunt like this again… or would he…?
His alt in the stiletto starts talking in local.

[02:14:23] Stiletto > nice setup :)
[02:14:38] Lodestone Toyee > its actually makeshift
[02:14:54] Stiletto > well sure u couldnt beat my mach whith it lol
...
[02:15:30] Stiletto > if i brght my mach id bring cynoes in case and u wouldnt like that so no
[02:15:38] Lodestone Toyee > wow, you must be badass

My retorts aren’t that great (I only have talking in local trained to 2), but I try to goad him into trying again.

[02:15:52] Lodestone Toyee > ill let you though for 500m
[02:15:55] Stiletto > i just play lowsec and null
[02:16:26] Stiletto > u can pay me a bil and i wont black ops ur ass
[02:17:33] Lodestone Toyee > yeah im a carebear
[02:17:52] Lodestone Toyee > ive never seen blops before
[02:17:56] Stiletto > lol
[02:18:05] Stiletto > PL :)
[02:20:43] Stiletto > so we can have a proper match if u want to play
[02:20:22] Stiletto > be back in 20

This guy is really haughty. His nullsec pvp skills are so good he jumps his provi through a gate in lowsec when he knows there is a gatecamp. Next level stuff.
The problem was, I actually took his threats to heart. Surely, nobody would try to send a provi into low without some form of backup. That stuff just doesn’t happen. His kb also indicated he flew in large fleets and often had lots of backup.
He moves to gamis, and it is clear that he will make his next push from there. I get my legion on the gamis gate, and prepare to hold him up. Blops or no blops, he shall not pass!

An idea strikes me. Even If I cant make the kill, I still want to see his provi die. He should pay for his insolence. I send my alt to another lowsec and convo a cyno alt from the #rekkingcrew. I lost my somewhat expensive T3 To them a few weeks back, and I know they certainly have the ability to make this kill. I tip them off to a freighter entering bekirdod, and return to my position on the gamis gate. I have surrendered this kill for the greater good.
Everything went as expected from there out. His provi jumps in, I make the tackle. A wild nemesis appears, and the fury of blops decends upon the provi. His last words are, “Make sure I look good on youtube”
Retriever

provi
I didn’t convo him afterwards, but it felt so good to see someone get what was coming to them Nothing else was said between us, but I could sense the quality of his day was somewhat reduced.

ACT 2: Highsec
Exactly a week had passed since the provi kill, and I hadn’t gotten anything worth noting.
I returned to Gamis and heard some talking in local that catches my attention. Some miners are talking about how they will defend their loot cans.
A few minutes later, Dscan announces that the orca pilot is littering. One of those dreadful MTUs is out.
Time to clean it up. I ship to my preferred Highsec ship, the phantasm, and with some swift bumps, the orca is 15km away from his mtu and I burn it down with the heat of conflag.
My 70th mtu kill, and 70 is my lucky number. :D

Bounty placed on you
Zanith Solette placed 1,000,000 ISK in bounty on your head.

Oh dear. People never appreciate it when their litter is cleaned up. Such a thankless job.
I am hanging out on station in the phantasm, not really expecting a fight because I’m in a bad bait ship. However, the orca lands and starts yellowboxing me, with his drones out.

I know he won’t aggress, nobody is that stupid, but from past experience I figured that he might do something if I was in an “appropriate” ship.

He returns to belt, and I dock up and look through my hangar. I had a nereus to spare, but it was fit as a cap booster transport for emergencies. After a little while I get it refit for combat readiness, and return it to the belt. I start to ninja loot some wrecks, pretending to be timid and warping off immediately. Each time I land the orca yellowboxes, but does nothing.
On the last wreck, I take my time as I align out. It also happens to be very close to the orca, so that’s a bonus. Suddenly, I hear the psychologically distressing sound that I have been aggressed in Highsec.

The orca is aggressed. The fight is on!

My scram lands instantly, but the orca has 3 procurer alts and all their drones are assisted to him. Fortunately it’s all warrior and Valkyrie 1s, and my shield doesn’t drop below 60% (it’s a passive recharge nereus)
I breach the orca shields with my 3 hobgoblins, and the pilot cries out. He wasn’t having fun anymore.

[04:43:00] Orca pilot > gg, sorry for trying to attack you
[04:43:22] Lodestone Toyee > my poor nereus
[04:44:01] Orca pilot > mind at least letting me live?

His 3 procurers warp off, and I start to get worried about blackbird. I had lost many miner kills in this way. I hurriedly check the station with my alt for some remote ECCM, but none is on sale. I have to gamble again. His armor is going fast and I cross my fingers and hope he is not a hull-tanked orca, otherwise it would take a century to break him.
I hit his structure just as my suspect timer wears out. That will protect me from evil blackbirds, but not neutral logi. Most sickening: I realize he is indeed hull tanked.

He starts to focus on my drones, and we start playing drone games. The one amusing part was that since we were both in industrials, it took me 25 seconds to lock a small drone, and took him even more, about 35 seconds. Also, I could only lock 2 targets at one time so it was slow going.

He handled his orca as well as could be expected. He lost a few drones, but I did too, and had to use my alt in a vexor to abandon drones so I could scoop to replenish my stock.

At 70% structure, my conflag crystal in my single gun broke. I managed to buy two more and dropped them in a can with my alt.
At 50% structure, I considered using my alt to bump him while my main reshipped. If I was a professional skilled Highsec pvper, I would have done that from the start. But my bumping skills were terrible, and I had grown attached to that status quo. My nereus had scram on him, and he wasn’t going anywhere. The second I removed that scram, anything could happen.
I resolved to be patient and wait it out. I was halfway done, it wouldn’t be too much longer.

At around 30% structure, he stopped aligning out and dropped a mobile depot. This was truly alarming. He could refit stabs, if he had them, or at a minimum more tank. He was determined to make this go as slow as possible. I reinforced the depot before he could use it, but he dropped it again and it anchored as it was in structure.

I brought my alt in and finished it off, but he had managed to fit a medium shield booster, which slowed me down even more. At this point I was considering using my alt to suicide gank him the rest of the way. This was taking way too long, and surely he might have backup soon.

My 89 dps was very slowly cracking his tank though, so I persisted. He would have to die eventually.

[4:44:37] Orca pilot > i'm lined for bar
[04:44:40] Orca pilot > lemme warp at least
[04:45:14] Orca pilot > please let me live?
[04:45:18] Lodestone Toyee > you hurt my ship and feelings
[04:45:27] Orca pilot> again i'm sorry
I really wanted to troll him in local but knew that I shouldn’t be gloating about victory if I hadn’t won yet. If he somehow escaped I would be very embarrassed.

[05:05:30] Orca Pilot > you done?
[05:06:43] Lodestone Toyee > turn off your DC and i will go faster
He was still holding out hope I would stop.
As he dropped to 15% structure I was getting excited. I would be so mad if I lost this kill. He seemed gullible, so I tried to trick him to self-destruct and save me time. It didn’t work though.

[05:33:44 ] Lodestone Toyee > just dont SD please
[05:33:57 ] Lodestone Toyee > I want a km for all my effort 
At 5% structure, he finally gave up and ejected. Of all the things I’ve killed, I must admit I have never seen such a pretty explosion in my life.

His pod stayed on grid for over 20 seconds. Unfortunately I missed the opportunity due to the 35 second lock time of my nereus. (again, had I been a pro Highsec pvper I would have brought remote Sebos for the pod, since it was likely shiny)
Looking though the orca, the estimated value was 1.1 billion. I hurried my alt back to station to grab an industrial before the realization came to me: I WAS THE INDUSTRIAL! :D

Loot All. it fits!Big smile

After delivering a Gf in local, I tried to find what was making the loot so valuable. The only faction mods were two sisters launchers… Then I saw the word “harvester”
4 of 5 harvester drones dropped for me. Loot fairy <3

normally i dont mind dying
From: Orca Pilot
To: Lodestone Toyee,

cept in this case i had 90% of my mining assests in there, along with most my spare modules, i was asking to live cause i had a lot of stuff in there, so thanks for setting me back at least 2 weeks of work, have a nice day

He also added 10 million to his previous bounty, and made me contact with terrible standing. Twisted

Shortly after I was congratulated in local by CODE, and another shady character offered to buy the harvester drones off me for a generous price. Im not sure how people learned about it so fast, but I heard the kill ended up on reddit too.
Props to the orca pilot for fighting so long. It cost me 6 hobgoblin 2s, 2 conflag S crystals, and a warm dinner Sad
The entire affair lasted over 1.5 hours.
