According to the descriptions in-game, there is a one point base difference between the two, 44 vs 45 respectively.

At the end of the day, assuming probing with a pimped out, maxed skill T3 cruiser with the bonus module, rigs, faction launcher and head full of virtues, does that one point really mean anything?

Is there some critter out there that the RSS will catch but the Sister's won't?

I've fiddled and diddled a bit, but from where I sit I don't see any appreciable difference........

Any other experience or opinions are welcomed..............

In your case, the answer is probably no. But for those players doing exploration in a ship with no scan bonus or scan Implants installed, that 1 little extra point per active RSS probe could make the difference in getting 100% lock.

It probably wouldn't hurt to have a set of RSS probes just in case. Just remember they don't last as long as SoE probes.

RSS probes only last for about 15 mins.

SoE probes last for about 1 hr.

Every once in a while, depending on scanning skill level, equipment used, type of cosmic signature, etc, sometimes just can't get 100% lock with SoE probes. Swap out the probes 1 by 1 for RSS probes and do another scan. That will probably be enough to get the 100% lock.

That's pretty much my fear. I tend to nod off occasionally when doing the exploration thing ( yes, yes, I know, I'll die horribly in a fire one day for not paying attention to local in OMS or Stain or somewhere.....meh. ) and I lose enough of the toys the good sisters give me as it is for having them pop from age while I snooze/nap/siesta/watch beast pron.

Based on your answer and my own experience, I'll save me pennies for that day when I can't get a 100% lock. Hasn't happened yet, even on the worst holes.....takes a bit of time and finesse, but I've yet to fail with four Sisters probes.

Thanks for the answer!

The max sensor strengths end up as following

Tech I__168.331
Sisters_ 185.164
RSS___ 189.372

If you do a large amount of probing it might be worth your while investing in them since you have already gone to the effort of maxing out other elements such as a virtue set. It's not like you risk losing them often.

There is nothing you cant catch with normal scan probes, RSS just makes the job easier, note the flight time.

If you can afford them, they ~are~ better, just not by very much.

First, let me say thanks for the answer. The numbers were what I couldn't quite work out.....me maths are a bit rusted, what with not having seen the inside of a schoolhouse in 40 someodd years or so.....

Second, and more serious...........
