Hi. Is there any key that would display objects (stations, ships, asteroids, structures, etc.) names on screen? To be clear I want to be able to see names of objects I see in space instead of having to point my mouse cursor over each one separately.

There is the show "all brackets" option in Ui settings.

Yes, but it only shows the brackets not the names of what the brackets represent.

there isn't a way of getting all the names to show in space that I know of... you can set your overview to show "all" and it'll display as a list...

I'm curious as to when you'd want to see everything in space? I've spent most of my time trying to reduce the amount of information showing in space so I can see what I need to clearly Smile.

Clearly to distinguish between different objects, i.e. ships. For example near jump gates or stations I would like to easily see who is flying in and out. Another example would be if I see lets say 6 ships, by displaying their names I would quickly know who is who. Simple. I hoped such basic functionality would be there (same as mouse sensitivity in space setting for example....).
Without it I have to point on them separately or use the overview. I know the overview is quick and all but I also want to know where everybody is around me in 3d space without clicking on them in the overview or pointing mouse cursor on them.
Besides, if there's a lot of movement the overview list changes constantly because of people jumping in and out and it's sometimes difficult to click on something. It would be much easier if I could press let's say Alt or Crtl key to display the names and simply click on the screen.

nope, there are no "name tags" like in other games.

BUT -- that's what the overview is for. It'll show you names, ship types, etc.

edit -- not sure i know what you mean by "click on the overview" to see this info. Mine shows all that at a glance...

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Sorry I wrote "clicking on them in the overview"

Too bad that displaying names is not possible. It would really help plus It would be very easy to implement.
It could be just another keyboard short cut to "Display overview info on screen". That way the information from the overview could be visible in space It wouldn't affect overview customization because it would still be possible to customize it which is great but just to display info from the overview on screen.

You can freeze the overview though by holding control, mousing over the person on the overview will then give you the same info as if you moused over them in space.

The biggest reason they probably don't have this is that certain areas of space would get VERY cluttered VERY fast.

There is only 1 way as far as I know of and that is with the overview.

On the fast changing thing, you likely have your overview sorted out to be listed on the distance to your ship, as you and others move around it will change a lot. If you sort it by name it should be more 'static' (this doesn't comply when you sit outside Jita 4-4)

2nd you should do is make a "PvP"-overview setup if you want to spot ships, you do this by setting it that your active overview only shows ships and not Moons/planets/gates/stations/asteroid belts/what ever else there is in system. This should make your overview less cluttered.

Also keep in mind that actually displaying all the names on stuff on your main screen will likely make your client lag out. It will ask too much resources from your PC and the server to function (hence why most people try to decrease the number of things displayed on screen, even with TiDi it's still annoying if your screen is cluttered by the brackets of 200 pilots all fielding as much drones as they can P)

EDIT: Keep in mind if you hold your Ctrl-key your overview freezes and doesn't move anything, even if it should. And clicking on someone in space actually displays their shiptype / name / etc in the selected item window that is in EVE.

you can "stack" objects and get them all to show their mouse over info in 3d space by zooming all the way out... won't help too much in the situation of 3d awareness though What?

Also doesn't help if you've edited your mouse over info layout to show on multiple lines Roll

The only thing I would suggest is throwing a proposal at the Features & Ideas Discussion board, I've seen some posts from the UI Devs about making the in space stuff look more like the youtube vids they've made. So it might be something they can get in as a part of doing that.

edit: trial board not new player board... might not be able to get to that forum Shocked
