Microtransactions are the whole point of the F2P payment model, devs don't run F2P games out of the goodness of their hearts and they have to get income from somewhere. You can get away with the free stuff in STO anyway, the ships you get in game are fine for pottering about and doing some PVE. If you have loot envy and feel jealous because somebody has a shiny ship from the C-store it might be a problem I suppose.



Listen, there are limits to that business modell, what makes a good F2P system and what doesn't depends on several factors. In my view, the F2P system implemented in STO sucks, company is too greedy both in regards to that and other games. It is greed at its worst.

They sell stuff that does make you better in the game, also respecs and changes everything costs real money etc. Also all new items costs real money, every little things they develop in the future has a price tag on it, even that pair of trousers or belt.
