Faction standings

My faction standings with Caldari State is at -4.23 now and with Amarr Empire it is -4.72. From what I can see once I get to -5.0 with these factions I will be shot at when I enter their systems. Does this mean I will no longer be able to go to Jita when I get to
-5.0 with Caldari State? If so, what is my best option for raising my standings with them?

You will be able to enter Jita and use its station, etc. However, any Caldari NPCs will shoot you on sight, so you will want to fly a fast ship that can get away from them before they scram you.

To recover your standings, you can get a big jump start by training Diplomacy -- it raises your standing with hostile factions by 0.4 per level. Beyond that, you will have to grind missions, starting with Level 1 ones.

You can also re-run the Sisters of Eve epic arc, and choose to work with the faction you want standings with.

Also simply declining anti-faction missions helps.

The Social skill Diplomacy also impacts the negative standings.

Yep, just train Diplomacy first. If that is not enough, check this article:
Faction Standing Repair Plan (quite complete list of all the ways you can use to fix faction standings).

If you're really worried about it, start running missions for the opposing faction, and keep alternating. You can also throw caution to the wind and just let it drop below -5 and get an alt to do the jita runs for you, which also saves time in the long-run.

Using a neutral alt specially trained for hauling to do hauling for you is also in general a safer option, particularly if you draw attention to yourself (have enemies).

Agree with last 2 posts. "neutral" haulers are quite good to have around. I don't have the problem of negative standings with factions that much but as null-sec alliance it's quite safe to have an out of alliance guy doing the hauling in high-sec for me. So I don't have the problem of all those red / blue standing guys or the wardecs that are on my alliance. With that out of alliance character it's auto-pilot all the way and then go AFK / play on my main toon.

Yeah, and since you'll be AFK doing other stuff, you won't see your low skilled hauling alt get ganked while auto-piloting that 15 km to each gate.

Since this is the 'New Citizen's Q&A' sub forum, it's not really a good idea to be offering that as advice when someone asks what's their best options for raising Faction standings so they can enter a major trade hub..

New players, when hauling stuff to market, you definitely need to be paying attention to the screen along with 'warping to 0' at each gate. By doing that, it will reduce the chance of having a suicide gank squad attack you. About the only time you could get jumped is when your ship aligns to jump to the next gate en-route.

Suicide gank squads look for Industrial ships traveling on autopilot. The gank squad will usually have someone doing a passive stealth cargo scan on passing Industrial ships. The stealth scanner relays the info to the rest of the squad waiting on the gate in the next system.

Why would I ever AFK while hauling? I think if I did and I got suiganked, my noob tears would overflow the whole forum.

My somewhat-concealed and sarcastic point that I was trying to make is for heaven's sake do not AFK. Other than when you're sitting in a station, or AFK cloaked (which is pretty hilarious) there is no reason you should ever be AFK in Eve. Whenever my sec status allows, I actually lead my hauler in an interceptor, checking for camps along the way.

@OP: for emphasis, don't AFK in space, period.

Totally agree with the post of not AFK while in space and warping to 0 manually is safer.

Just for your interests, my autopilot alt who is doing it AFK is in a freighter and I never ship stuff around that makes it worthwhile to try to suicide gank it. Whenever I have to transport stuff that is of high value (and makes suicide ganks happen more easily), yes I will warp manually and will always use a blockade runner as that makes you near impossible to be killed.

Yeah, if I found myself transporting a freighter full of Rifters I don't think I'd bother warping to 0. Freighters are fairly hardy, and suicide-ganking one only happens when there is some profit in doing so. Not using warp to 0 with any other smaller ship is asking for trouble, though. Deep space transports may be OK with it for the same reason freighters are, but I still wouldn't AFK in one.
