Fat chance that anyone with blue bars will read this thread, let alone reply to it, but we should let it be known that we are unhappy with this change.

I'm doing my best not to whine here, but I too liked the old way of minimizing....

Seriously, instead of bottom, they go to left. EMOTEENRAGE?

New is better, old was so 2000.

I'm sorry, Mr. Unpronouncable Name With An Apostrophe In It For Some Reason, the reason that the minimise option (the real one, not this weird side minimising thing) is there is because most of the freaking world is used to minimising things to the bottom of the screen, not the side.

If you open your journal, and click the minimise button, it no longer goes to the bottom of the screen like it used to. It now disappeares and can only be accessed again by clicking on the button on the left hand bar. Mucho annoying

It's just a thing of convenience. If you hit the Journal button on the left the Journal will open. If you hit the button again it will not close but minimize the journal (the button will get shiny). If you hit the button once again it will pop up faster this time because its just maximizing the window.
If you ask me pretty neat to have only button instead of the hundreds of bars at the bottom.

THIS IS VERY INCONVIENIENT FOR ME. Now I'm having to click extra buttons to see blinking instead of just looking down at the bottom of the screen. FAIL NEOCOM for me :'(

+1 to bringing back minimising.

I can't see which channels are talking to me any more.

Preferred the old way simply because minimizing chat windows used to be useful, now if I'm "lucky" I get this useless mess: http://piclair.com/data/yexkt.jpg

but usually I get this: http://piclair.com/data/yhzxm.jpg

Didn't want to access those chat windows anyways I guess...

The entire neocom stinks of :awesome:, they added stuff just for the sake of adding them like the hierarchical menus in the "eve-menu", if a UI designer tries to convince anyone that they are a good idea in 2012 he'll get fired (outside the world of software development for professionals).

And why are the ships and items icons stuck next to the ******* undock button? Who thought that was a good idea?

This new feature is going to slow my fleet interactions significanly when trying to recruit & multiple windows are popping up from 5-10 people. ROLLBACK NOW CCP TO MINIMALIZE TO BOTTOM FOR CHATS!!!! WHY CAN'T INDIVIDUAL CHATS GET THIER OWN DAMN ICONS & BE MADE PERMENAT LIKE LOCAL & CORP

Hmm, seems that it's just me that finds this new system annoying. I used to love having everything along the bottom of the screen, ready to pop out when needed (Contracts, wallet, market, etc), but now it's all along the left hand bar (and therefore I must trundle my cursor over a further distance)

Sad gorki :(

they are working on it so you can move the whole bar to the bottom. should be in the next patch or so.

Changing a user interface without a requirement is never a good idea. This feels like developers going wild. It is not a good sign for project management.

Anyway, introducing an uncommon UI feels strange. I would prefer the "normal" more intuitive old UI. Like in the past, a configuration option to chose which UI version users prefer would probably settle the issue...

BTW, asking users (and not just the CSM; I start to wonder about these guys...) would help avoiding such things.

The new neocom's not a bad thing in itself, but considering it was touted as being customizable it's a huge let down. It's only customizable in so much as when you log in for the first time since they've changed it you need to put all the old icons straight back on and trick it into letting you get rid of that useless chat button.

Adding icons to the side for every window? Who the hell thought that was a good idea? Ok I'm going to take a step back, maybe someone somewhere is getting good use out of that feature, great, good for them. Annoying for me. Oh and has anyone else noticed that the icons for most of the windows are almost entirely devoid of visual clue as to what they are? When it was tabs at the bottom it had the window name written on it, easy to find at a glance even if you had a few. Now you need to mouse over all of them trying to find it. I can read CCP, I'm even pretty good at it, what I am not is psychic, 2 traits which I suspect that the vast majority of your customerbase shares with me.

Since customizability = trying to make it work the same way it worked before and failing, why not just give those of us who prefer function over looks to use the old neocom? (The little avatar pic looked better in the old one too, yes I am vain)

(New Neocom has given me much rage it seems)

Edit: And don't even get me started on the flashing, I'm lucky I don't do a lot of trading or missionrunning.

Roll it back.

Didn't the ship hangar teach you lot anything about form over function?

I'm trying my best to be objective here, but I really do dislike the new setup.

Especially because every thing adds something to the bar, including cargohold, dronebay, and the FPS graph.

And at this time it feels less customizable than the old one. Maybe thats just me not knowing the tricks though.

Let's think about the neocom...

What it is?
-> Utility to access various in-game tools. containers and settings.

Easiest way to access such individual item?
-> Single mouse click or keyboard shortcut.

Best way to make such access possible?
-> Single icons if screen estate allows.

Would hide feature be useful?
-> Yes if it releases screen estate while neocom is hidden.

Would some menu structure be useful?
-> No as long screen estate allows all needed buttons be visible at once.
-> If all buttons do not fit, next obvious step would store more rarely used buttons under group, which would add only 1 mouse click to access them.

Would configuring visible buttons and grouping be useful?
-> Most likely, because many people like to customize their user interface.

Should default button setup remain as it was in old neocom?
-> Absolutely.

Would there be any reason what so ever to add more stuff to neocom like cargo containers, scanners or query windows?
-> None what so ever.

Would there be any valid reason to minimize windows to neocom and hide their labels?
-> None what so ever.

Would there be any valid reason to add area for taskbar to bottom of the user interface where windows would minimize with their labels enabled.
-> It might give more professional look, but still keep the functionality as it was.

Would there be any valid reason to add separate chat button?
-> Can't think one which would not add mouse clicks to access minimized chats.

Would there be any reason to add separate channels button?
-> Probably useful to make finding new chats easier. Old channels button is pretty well hidden.
-> This button could also have links to already open chats, but should not be the main access route and should not light the icon on update.

Would there be any reason to add compare tool button?
-> Absolutely. It is really hard to access without shortcut keys and neocom icon.

How icons should attract player when there is something new going on?
-> With 2-3 blinks and icon should remain highlighted untill accessed.
-> Blinking should activate again if there is further new things taking place, even the button weren't "reseted".

Should the neocom be resizeable?
-> Depends if there is anything to gain/lose from that. Mostly cosmetic and personal preference.
-> Should be fully optional and customizable.

How did this task end up so horribly wrong?
