Javelin Torpedoes for pvp

I'm working on becoming a viable Phoon pilot. Love the torps and would like to know more about which torps pilots use in pvp and why. I was in an engagement over the week end and found that range was an issue. Are Javelin Torpedoes the way to go for the increased range?
Thanks in advanced.

Yeah, range is a major disadvantage on the torp phoon - its why they tend to want to get up close and personal with mids = mwd, scram, web, painter. If you find that you can't get in range to deliver the torp damage with faction torps you may be better off with an AC based fit.

At least, IME.

"working on becoming a viable Phoon pilot" lllllllllol I can't tell if this is a joke

As for your question, I can give you an answer having flown stealth bombers quite a bit. Use rage if you're going to be hitting battleships and caps, faction for everything else (actually rage might be good for BCs, someone correct me on this). The only time I've used javelin are for specific setups that require max range and kiting outside of a ship's lock range.

The Phoon is pretty SP intensive. However it probably isn't that accurate anymore because I'm training Inty 5 and Covops 5 instead of anything phoon related right now. :(

See for yourself though: http://eveboard.com/pilot/Liang_Nuren

The range difference on SBs (and even the Raven) makes them entirely different experiences than the Phoon. With a Phoon your torps don't even reach to point range.

Minny torps make me cry. They don't even really get a DMG buff. Stupid slaves stole the wrong tech.

I flew a quad heavy neut torp phoon in W-space (it required EHP sacrifices). My record with the ship was something like 30:2. It died only to Tengus and booze - everything else, I got dropped within 10km and ran them down for scramming (not having any cap tends to halt the enemy). If you cannot replicate this situation reliably, then a torp phoon can be a big fat punching bag. javs will not help.

I had no problem DPSing battlecruisers with rage torps. A similar experience is the neut-torp Rokh; your enemy runs out of cap, slows to a stop, their hardeners turn off, and there's not much that saves them at this point. Again, it does help to get dropped fairly close.

So. Its basically down to getting the tactics worked ut.

Fitting it with a little bit of faction stuff or getting a CPU implant makes it really shine, as you'll be able to fit EANMs.

Also, it has the coolest sounding module fit to it. Phased Weapon Navigation Array Generation Extron. Rolls right off the tongue.

Navy torps are better for sub BS-sized opponents due to the 640m explosion radius of Rage torps. Even against BS, you need a target painter for maximum damage. For caps definitely use Rage.

Javelin torps suck. Yeah, you can get 120km range on a bomber with them. But the dps is only in the upper 300s. With the advent of tier 3 BC, I would not want to fly a range fit bomber.

Well while we're at it we might as well do the others too.

Partial Weapon Navigation = P.W.N
Peripheral Weapon Navigation Diameter = P.W.N.D
Parallel Weapon Navigation Transmitter = P.W.N.T

(Old news btw)

Javelins explosion radius makes me think your torp Phoon/SB/Raven WILL BE better with faction Torps unless you try to hit capitals/structures.

Even T1 torps have better dps than T2's for everything from frig to BS (yes you can kill frigs with faction Torps+painters)

Though a raven in PVP is sad.
When it comes to everything else minmatar are favored.
I think it was CCP's Afirmative Action in favor of Minnie.

Afrimative Action should be based on economic class not race... i forget, which race has the worst market in their space?

Confirmed. If not for lack of tackle when that opportunity came up...
