In the immediate future cross-training wont be a problem imho. Being a null-sec starter no decent FC will count on you. In time it will become important. Here's why:

Your fleet is flying around in a 150 man drake fleet. You encounter a 150 man Abbadon fleet. You die.

Next time that happens you'll want to switch to AHAC's. Fast.

Your fleet is flying a 150 man tengu fleet. You enounter a 150 man Rokh fleet. You die

Next time you want to be able to switch to an Abbadon fleet. Fast.


These examples are theory. Reality is a bit more complicated, diverse and includes many exceptions. Location will be an important factor etc....
It's important to be able to fly many ships and weapons because your enemy will switch tactics on you. If you can't you'll be less usefull. Null-sec is more about space than it is about ships. Being a versitale player matters.

Another thing to keep in mind is that most null-sec players can in fact fly multiple races.
