[Suggestion/Graphics] make weapons randomly target spots on a ship

It feels really weird to navigate around in such an amazing world, with very detailed models and stuff, but when it comes to battle and 300 turrets shoot a vessel, they all target this "second window from the right in 18th floor of the giant supercap".

CCP, please make turrets randomly target points on a ship to make it look more natural.

Just yesterday I tried "Sins of a Solar Empire", tactics game in space, and I was amazed how realistic battles can look when every little frigate shoots a different spot on a star base. Even with little explosions wherever they hit.
As this change must be completely client-side from my understanding it would not even drain your resources and might also be deactivated when it would affect large-scale combat on client side.

Havent you heard that 'that' is a supercaps weakspot?

On another note. How mutch coding it would take to implement something like this I have no clue about. But it would be cool. I would also like to see shield impacting added to this list. Having some form of a ripple effect or something just before the ship if shields are active. However again, I have no clue about the amount of coding requiered to make this work.

I would also enjoy seeing randomly targeted spots on things. It's also in asteroids and ice mining. 10 people in hulks mining with 3 lasers all mine the same exact spot until the asteroid moves enough for it to target another exactly the same spot for everyone.

+1 for this idea

I really loved the idea of missed shots skirting the edge of your ship and the expansion of hitting multiple parts and ripple effect of shields and better structure fire effects exc would make this game more enjoyable.

I'd welcome this aswell, but it might be a bit low on the priority list.

what a waste of development time

I can't see how making a game more enjoyable for 100% of the players would be wasted developement time.
You wouldn't give us "your" priority list, but as a member of Goonwaffe I expect your priorities to affect way less players.

Also, I guess no game designer, community manager or anyone but a graphics specialist would work on this - take my point?

It would be like adding battledamage and custom skins to the game. All of that extra stuff to keep track of would eventually kill the server unless it had a ****load of CPU cores (or GPUs) and WAY more RAM than it already has (it currently has 1 Terabyte).

In addition, it would tax you're Graphics Card because it would overload the Graphics Memory.

This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

These points are currently tied into the game as floating inventory so adding a whole lot of them can cause more lag. What I did suggest though was that prexisting points on the ship that are doing other duties start pulling double duty. like model anchors and gun anchors and thruster antimation anchors.

Haven't you ever heard of the skill that helps you master weak spots on a enemy ship? You train the skill up and your weapons hit the same spot every time. With or without the skill trained.

What insane mind would make a ship split into several parts and try to let them be "floating inventory"?
You are not going to target specific "systems" of a ship, it is just YOUR pc that calculates RANDOM spots on the enemy vessel.

on (shooting animation starts)
if (better turrets enabled) then (find random spot to shoot at)
ellse (use old spot to shoot at)
SHOOT \o/

no big deal for my PC. For all others there is (better turrets NOT enabled).

Graphics and animation can't have anything to do with servers - although I'm not an expert in this, there is no other way. If server handles ANY of the graphics displayed then I bet the universe rotates around my nosetip.

EDIT: why would anybody here worry about the technical possibilites? We make our wishlist, and CCP tells if it is possible or not :)
while ofc the wishes should be reconsidered in terms of possibility and consequences at first so CCP doesn't have to say "no" all the time. Which I did imo by
a) coming to the conclusion that all of this is client-side
b) seeing this working on hundreds of ships in another game.
(please stop blah blah different engine NOW it's just a prove that it wouldn't kill a CPU at all and MIGHT aswell work in this engine)

what relay would be cool is to target specific areas of the ship and do damage to it. lats say propulsion and the damage done there would let your ship move more slowly with increasing damage.

Or target the weapon system and damage one of your turrets.
Or damage one targeting computer, or simply target the hull.

This should be available after disabling the shields of course.

thats the point where you would kill the server as it would have to keep track of lets say 10 components of each ship, which means at least 10 times the calculations to be done :)

would be kinda cool indeed but goes too deep into gameplay changes to propose imo

I think this is a great idea, been meaning to create a similar thread. +1

Few things to consider though as previous comments has touched: Server performance. If changing this would further stress the servers then screw it, i'll just zoom out instead so not to notice Roll

However, if this is a client-side fix then I say GO for it! More explosions also while you're at it Blink

If you're reading this then that means my time travel worked
