Cheers,

So, new player here. Absolutely LOVE the idea, concept, playstyle, and visuals for the game. Fell in love with Minmatar right off the bat, so been working on those skills. Tried Caldari/Gallente a little, and while I loved Drones, I cannot stand Gallente ships. So meh.

Anyhow, I have a few questions and would like to beg some experience from the vets around here.

1) Rather tan completely investing in a single race for now, I decided to branch out. Is Amarr a good race to complement Minmatar? They seem pretty starstruck, but I really like the feel of Amarr vessels as well as Minmatar. Besides flight skills, the only other skill I have to train is Energy Turrets.

Question: Is Amarr worthwhile to train alongside Minmatar?
Question: Are the Minmatar/Amarr faction ships pretty decent? Cause they look badass!

2) For a goal of Lvl 4 missions for ISK/long term PvP or FW, would is be more beneficial to train for Battlecruisers or advanced cruisers like Heavy Assault Ships/Recon Ships? It seems many skills would be transferable, but training for Battlecruiser/Command Ships looks like a TON longer training than for HACs/Recons or even Strategic Cruisers...thoughts?

Question: In a strait up fight, well trained Battlecruiser or HAC?

3) What's the best Pirate vessels? I looks at the Dram/Cyn/Mach line, which looks awesome from a Minmatar point of view, but I can't stand any Gallente ships except the Ishkur/Ishtar.

Question: Seeing lots of "Guristas this" and "Guristas that", are any other pirate vessels up to par?

4) In terms of tanking, I see many Minmatar vessels can, unfortunately, be shield or armor tanked.

Question: To simplify training, would it be sound to only train Armor skills, thus maximizing SP training for use with Amarr vessels? Or am I going to have to train shield skills? (I guess I would anyways cause the Jaguar looks sexy as hell!)

Either way, I'm going to be MIA for about a month(USMC, got training for 28 days...) and will not have access to a computer, so was hoping to put on a long skill to train. Any experience would be great!

The Amarr/Minmatar ships are the Blood Raider Cruor, Ashimmu and Bhaalgorn. The Ashimmu and Bhaalgorn are often seen in incursion fleets as well as PvP fleets. In PVE the focus in on their webifying capability, in PvP the focus is on their cap neutralizing capacity. That is, of course, a sweeping generalization.

If you fly Minmatar, you really need to have shield and armour skills trained, if you really must pick only one and want to fly Amarr ships, pick armour.

When it comes to BC vs HAC, it really depends on pilot skill.

In most circumstances crosstraining Amarr will not help you in Minmatar ships and vice versa (except in some rare circumstances; Autocannon punisher is popular for example). It is great for increasing the variety of ships you can fly (I fly all races except Amarr personally) but you will be a bit less effective in any given ship than someone who specialized.

That's a very very vague question. They're good at different things. In general, battlecruisers kinda obsolete HACs right now, but there are balance changes incoming that should be rectifying this.

Battlecruisers and t2 cruisers have similarish training requirements. BCs are actually easier to train for than t2 by a little bit.

In a straight up fight, it really depends but in general I'd put money on a battlecruiser (but cruisers are faster and more agile).

By "pirate" vessels, do you mean ship to go pirating in, or the Pirate faction ships (Blood Raider, Guristas...)?

About half of minmatar ships armor tank, and many can do either. All Amarr ships armor tank so if you want to focus, that would be a good place to start.

Minmitar and Amar Are good to train together

Some Amar ships like the punisher work better with projectiles then they do energy weapons.

The pirate auto canon Punisher is a tried and true ship.

If an amarian ship has only bonuses to energy weapons capacitor use, and not rate of fire, damage or range, Technically you arent gimping the ship by putting projectiles on it. Even then there are some that go against this rule. In groups the hell cat Abbadon with 1400's is a deadly vessel, HUGE alpha and a massive tank.

You should train both shield tanking and armor tanking skills. Most ships can be tanked in a variety of ways. Even ships like the Sliepnir, claymore and tengu, can be armor tanked for certain pvp gangs, for Ewar support and gang links, even though these ships have exclusive shield tanking bonuses.

If you plan on pvping you need to get your core skills up and this means shield skills as well: Shield operation, Shield management, and tactical shield manipulation. These skills contribute to your ships over all EHP(effective hit points) and since pvp is usually a contest of having more buffer then your opponent, or simply having enough buffer for logi to save you, Things that make your shield better are good for armor tanked ships as well.

Since you said you want to do pvp, you need to train both armor tanking and shield tanking skills. You just need to decide which you would like to do first.
