Crashing PC, codecs?

Whenever I play eve, it can play for a while but if running for a long time of goes into a busy area (i.e. entering a vanguard site) it will crash my pc. I'm not talking about a BSOD or Reboot, but both my monitors crash into blank colours and pc sometimes freezes. This is only stoppable via reboot. Sometimes programs continue running in the background, such as music players e.t.c. It's been bugging me for a while now.

Recently I got a few .MWV files from an email. watching these in windows media player caused the same problem as eve did. However, running them in VLC player (that uses it's own codecs) went fine, no problems. This gave me a possible hint as to the problem.

Could codec's be causing my PC to crash when under load? I've tested every physical part of my PC, including spending £250 on a new graphics card to test with. The video by itself simply cannot be creating enough load to crash my pc, so is there a way to find out what codecs EVE uses and disable them? The aim to force eve to use other, stable codecs, if that's how it works?

P.S. Yes, I've updated drivers on everything I can. If anyone wants one, I'll upload a DxDiag too.

Hopefully,

I had similar crashes when my powersupply was failing. It was throwing dirty power at my mobo and causing my whole system to become unstable, particularly when playing movies and games

I've checked up in the bios about what voltage they are putting out, and they are easily within 5% of what they should be, and I'm told that that's the acceptable limit.

Due to financial constraints I am unable to buy another 800W + Power supply at the moment, at least until I can guarantee that's the problem.

EDIT: My PC is newly built, about 4 months ago. I had this problem for most of that time.
