Graphics glitch/white flashes

Okay, so I got a weird-ish problem. My EVE client will randomly flash white, only for a fraction of a second. I'm not sure how I can explain this thoroughly, but what happens is that it will just blink/glitch out/flash for a very short time. When you sit a lot in front of the computer, and into the wee hours, this becomes pretty straining on the eyes, even if it's only a short time every now and again.

This started happening approx. one-two weeks ago (I'm not entirely sure). Graphics card is Radeon 4890, and its temperature is around 65-70 while playing. I've manually set the fan to push the temp down, no change. All drivers should be up to date.

Another problem in troubleshooting this, is that I have no idea if its fixed after fiddling with something, or if the problem simply doesn't occur at that time. It doesn't seem to happen under a certain set of conditions, just randomly, so I cannot replicate the issue at will.

As I said, don't know how to describe this more accurate than a "flash" of white light. It seems to go away for a while if I restart my computer - although I am not entirely sure, as it could very well just be randomness. Sometimes it will happen ~once a minute, other times it will be gone for hours.

Any suggestions here? Is this a known problem, or is my graphics card starting to **** itself? I'm generally pretty handy with a computer, and I have a black belt in Googling, but I haven't found an answer (possibly because there are certain issues with searching for "white light", herp. I don't have an accurate description of the problem).

I will send unicorns, poems and ISK to anyone who has a solution!

Most of us have seen these full screen white flashes related to the sun light in EVE depending of the camera location facing the sun.
Could be related to the type of video card but you might want to turn off the light occlusion in settings.

Yup, tried it. Those white sun-flashes are similar, but the one I have a problem with now, happens in stations too. With light occlusion turned off. It seems to be stronger white in the edges, for whatever reason, but that might just how I perceive it.

As a suggestion, have you tried to go Window mode instead of full screen and do you get a greyish/pale screen when you do Alt-Tab to desktop?

I primarily play in windowed mode. And no, can't say I've experienced any oddities while alt-tabbing.

then my last idea, might be to turn your display colors from 32bit to 24bit or even 16bit and see.

Noticed one more thing: My cursor blinks when I don't move the mouse. Have no idea if it's related.

And the "white flash" may or may not be the EVE client going completely transparent / windows acting like I'm alt+tabbing for a split second.

Then I am thinking you could try to reduce all setting to LOW, Medium and High and see the difference. If it still persist then download STO and see if it does the same there.

STO? Huh, I've now killed off explorer.exe completely, and it seems fine again. I'm not sure why - there wasn't a resource issue, as I never used more than 50% of any hardware's resources. Annoying, to say the least.

If explorer.exe helped out, I would suggest you play with msconfig.exe to troubleshoot...
