A Change in Direction

So I've decided to make some changes for myself, and it includes switching corps and moving to Caldari space with some new mates over there. Thing is, I'm pure-bred Amarrian skill-wise. So the rats in Caldari missions will be giving me a slight headache if I keep at lasers (T2 skills). Now I can mission in Amarr space for now but eventually I will need to haul my ass up there.

Now I'm currently heavily remapped perc/will and training ship skills. But I'm conflicted if I should put some skills into missiles or hybrids for future missioning out in my newer home.

I'm leaning towards missiles but I already have the support skills for hybrids. I will be training caldari ship skills for many reasons later on as well.

Basically, I'm just looking for some incite/suggestions.

Stick with Amarr imo, Caldari is boring and mainstream. Get a paladin with Tachs and you'll start to rip through Guristas foes. Plus a good 35-50% of the missions in Caldari space are against Blood/Sansha/Drones

Could always take a CAREFUL look at the Khanid line-up and train the appropriate missile skills. Won't really get you a missioning BS, but there are some decent missile slingers in the Amarr line-up. I am more towards going mattar on an Amarr character because it opens up the Bhaalgorn, but then again I PvP more than I mission so your mileage may vary. Mattar also gets you damage selection, lol-op projectiles and GTFO ability.

Insight. Just saying.

Caldari ship skills will obviously open up Sansha ships, which is nice. The problem is that pure Caldari gun boats are pretty unremarkable in PvE (exploration Harpy being an exception).

That leaves you with either training missiles (which can be slightly faster than guns if you go for selected missile sizes though it's still a new set of important support skills; HMs are of course recommended) or going for another gunnery skillset (either hybrids on Gallente hulls or projectiles on Minmatar hulls). Neither option is quick, but both work. Hybrids really have gotten a boost, but (in my experience) ACs are still the best guns for L4s.

So I guess it really depends. Try out some options in EVEMon and see what each entails. You'll pick up some nice side benefits nomatter how you choose to do it.

Yes, such a brain fart.

I've set a a short, basic queue in EVE-Mon for stuff like Caldari Frigate & Rockets for the Vengeance (I've heard such interesting things about this lil ship). The Paladin sounds like a solid investment for my high-sec activites, can it really handle the heavy EM resists in Caldari LVL 4s?

Perhaps Matari guns & Boats would be a better choice for down the road, as this new direction includes some heavy-duty PVP action, preferably on the winning side. And in the way of gunnery support I'm pretty much set... Will need to play with EVE-Mon some more when I get home.

Thanks for the replies :D

You already have the gunnery support skills. Train Projectiles and Minmatar ships.

For PVE, Maelstrom > Raven > Rokh.

Missiles would require a lot longer train to make them decent. Skills you will likely not use when you are PVPing.

If your planning on moving around regions then I would heartily recommend the maelstrom.

Selectable damage types, very sexy DPS and quite flexible range with 800s, enough mids for 3 mission specific hardeners plus a nice bonussed SB rate, plus any money on faction goodies can be ported right over to your inevitable mach.

Although it must be said that the thing is slooow. No AB will cause enormous headaches.

Despite my dislike for going with the 'FOTM' race of ships it looks as if this is my best option. Although for now I'll simply do all my missioning where I'm currently based out of while I train. I will avoid the Mach though, I'll never be THAT serious about my missioning!

As for slooooow, I fly an Abbadon, so I'm already used to that Smile.
