One of the more common attacks I see on posters in C&P is that the OP is not posting with "their main". It is usually implied that posting with an alt makes them cowardly. Frankly, that's a lot of *********. Eve is well-known as a jaded, paranoid, ruthless game and stories of "meta-gaming" that are beyond the pale are hardly news. Worst case scenario is that you post something in a forum and trigger some psychopath into "grief for life" mode... which won't matter if he/she/it can't identify the OP's main. So by posting with an alt, you're dodging the worst case. That's not cowardly, that's just common sense.

Isn't C&P supposed to be the Mos Eisley of Eve forums? Don't criminals and other miscreants commonly assume a false name, to avoid perhaps, getting caught? Criminals and pseudonyms go together like *insert cheesy synonym here*.

Giving the enemy free intel is never a good idea if your main is into pvp. Anything you post as your main can be used by enemies in pvp. Forums are routinely checked by WTs etc. for any shred of helpful information. I've even read many instances of C&P berating people who were scammed/ganked for not checking forums first.

Posting with your main can also inadvertently close doors for your main. For example, if someone were to post about a corporate theft with their main it would certainly lower their chances of success next time. It could also preclude them from joining a corporation that frowns on people who steal from corps. That's obvious, but on a lesser scale, anything you post as your main could be a deciding factor when a corp is vetting an applicant. Could be you post about your cat and the CEO is a dog person. You just never know.

Now of course there are a few exceptions to this, such as "famous" Eve characters. But their worst case stalker-type scenario is likely not going to be from a post, but from their fame. So in a way they're immune, as their chances of attracting some online nutjob are already sky high. A post probably isn't going to make the difference.

Another exception is the player who has many accounts. Such a player has many "mains" and may even trade characters regularly in the character bizarre. However, many players have only one or two "mains" and therefore maintaining their integrity and reputation is important.

tl;dr If you're posting with your main in C&P and you're not rich or famous you're DIW, especially if you pew.

I think you're over analyzing this. People post anonymously because they're probably aware that their views/statements will be controversial and therefore risk being ostracized. Imo, if you won't post it on your main, its probably not worth posting anyway.

Confirming how dangerous C&P forums are - people can type and post!!! Amamake is the Mos Eisley of the actual game. If you want to hang out with bad people to try and act tough, don't waste time on forums, just fly there.

If someone would ostracize me for my views, I wouldn't care about being in their good graces. Maybe that's because I'm not a nullbear.

Now, if I wanted to shitpost, I'd totally hop on an alt.

why would you care if they imply you are cowardly for alt poasting? they will attack you for any reason valid or not for leverage or for lulz...who cares? do what you want with an alt or "main" or whatever...if these attacks on a video game forum actually upset you irl then i would proceed and maybe you will get lucky enough that some spaceship game will help you harden yourself to meaningless slights in general

Summary of posts 4-14, in order:

Theory that posting helps get pew. Maybe.
Baseless conclusion.
Declaration of main and apology.
Ninja post.
Baseless conclusion plus unsupported theory of "how I should play Eve".
Tough guy talk w/redneck wisdom. No points addressed.
Missed my point. Point was repurcussions beyond the forums. Plz re-read.
No content.

So far, a good cross-section of C&P lately.

Also, in addition, it would be wise to stay in a NPC corp.

Actually logging into Eve-Online could be a bother too, best done with an alt, and with a good excuse to be AFK.

If undocking, it would be wise to have a trusted ally check outside for suicide gankers and / or piwates.

Local should be reduced at all times, and at no times should contracts be read.

Gotta leave it at that, my teddy-bear needs a big snugly hug.

I post with my main always even if my posts may be controversal for some.
C&P is polluted with carebears, who thinks they are "pirates" cuz they manage to kill a Retriever by can flipping.
Posting with an alt on forum is the height of carebearism. Grow a pair people.

People posting worthwhile threads in C&P usually do so on their mains, as notoriety is one benefit of being a criminal.

People shitting up the forum are usually either:

a) Highsec 'merc' or wardec pro-elite (Godsquad, #LSS, etc...)
b) NPC corp toons talking out of their ass.
