Anti-cloak 'weapon'

Yes I know this has been spoken about before, but I do not think this specific idea has come up, and I could not find the original thread!

My idea? well it is quite simple, and I think if implemented correctly it would be very interesting, and can still be countered by the cloakers and keep them relatively safe..

The idea is roughly based on a non-damaging 'smartbomb' now this is really a simple terms for this weapon, but I shall explain more.

It would be a high slot item..
stats, I have no idea how to balance this stuff, but I would like to see it as something that uses a large amount of cap to use.

What it would effectlively due is send out a EM pulse of some sort over a certain amount of range, if this pulse passes close enough to a cloaked ship, it will deactivate the cloak for X amount of time.

Now here comes the part that I think is important in maintaining the use of cloaking ships, the cloaker, can reactivate his cloak like normal after the pulse and any time limit, provided not locked etc, can still warp and everything else.

The EM pulse itself would merely provide a small window in which to lock the cloaker, and maybe destroy them.

of course this will not really come into effect for those cloaks that are in safe spots, and still requires effort from the agressor to take a guess as to what area the cloaker is in..

Well that is the basic idea....

As you said, it's not a new idea and not a balanced one either. So no thanks.

Pointless.

The current roster of cloaking vessels are already underpowered offensively and defensively, and catching them at bottlenecks like gates and stations is already too easy.

You would need to give them something in order to justify thrusting additional weaknesses onto them, and noone wants cloakers with any more power than they already have.

If your cloak is broken you can use nanite repair paste, (if you have the skills) or fix it in your nearest station. Blink I'm not sure why you would waste CCP's time, in this regard.

it doesn't have to be an I WIN buttons. The concept of balancing mean that the user has a consequence when using the item in question, like for instant.

this weapon could have the same characteristics as a cyno field gen where the user can not move for a period of time while the de-cloak weapon is active; or deny the user lock capability; or it could affect all ships scan resolution aswell as the cloak systems meaning the cloaky ship still has a chance to warp out but simply can't cloak up for a set period time

Instead of a module, why not make a dedicated ship (interdictors for example) where its cap and cpu is so bad that you could't fit anything threatening. When the ship is active, any cloaked ship with in its range will de-cloak and can not cloak back up for a set period of time (similar concept to EMP) however if new ships enter after the de-cloaking ship has been activated, the new ships won't be affected by it untill the de-cloaking ship enters its next cycle in like 5 minutes or so.

this maybe be a kill button for large gate camps but then if there where more than one ship entering system and the De-cloaking ship times his weapon badly then he wont get all of them. This concept can be use for gatecamps, but primarily for anti-black ops/anti-Covert ops fleet concepts.

You must be joking.

CovOps are more designed to probe and hunt, lacking significant offensive power directly.

Black Ops boats cost over 600 million, and cannot beat their T1 counterpart in a straight fight. They cannot even warp cloaked, so can be probed briefly already, if you catch them at the right moment coming out of warp.

How would locating these ships, on your terms, be anything but an 'I WIN' button?

If all CovOps ships get a new type of in-built jump drive allowing them to bypass gates altogether I might support this otherwise terrible idea.

in terms of the cloakies being seriously under powered, Point taken. But i do like to see new form of technology in future allowing new tactics and combat. This game can get seriously repetitive otherwise. I don't tend to gatecamp, in revers actually i fly a Helios Which is the best blockade runner i have ever used (Other than the skill demanded t3 cruisers)

On another note i am irritated about the black ops ships where the only useful one is the widow while the rest are just portable jump drives.
