Hi, So I was wondering.
Is there a new Triexporter, an updated one or a new and better program with the same function for exporting 3D Models from the EVE Client ?

Also, I was wondering. How do I get a hold of ship textures. is that also easiest done via the TriExporter and spend a million hours fitting it ?

Best Regards Dsan

Triexporter can export the entire EVE directory, and it's the only one I know that is sanctioned by CCP. As for new stuff; Slevin was putting together something a little more interesting, PM him for an update.

The textures do export, as for a million hours - it's more like a few minutes to conform them in Gimp/photoshop and there are DDS plugins for both, or there is an nVidia tool you could use. Their tool is pretty sweet, you double click on the DDS and it pulls out all of the mipmaps into TGA.

Once you got the textures, then you are good to go on slapping them in blender or w/e to create a material.

Tons of tips and guides available on the 'net, keyword 'triexporter tutorials import' and you'll get the basics.

Awesome, thanks.
The entire texture thing I will need to google my way through I guess :P
Going to be setting it up in 3dsm and V-ray.
Not super used to working with textures. More regular materials.

Check that video, it explains how to extract the .dds files using nVidia tools. Also he explains how to use the textures in 3DSMax.

Yep, getting the model and the diffuse texture is pretty easy, it's the other stuff like normal, transparency and glow maps the gave me a few problems.

In the case of the normal maps, they are split into two channels within the .dds texture, so you have to split them out into their own greyscale images, then recombine them into a regular normal map. So, you have normal_x and normal_y, that correspond to your red and green channels (copy/paste - just remember that the image you're copying has to be in greyscale), then you fill in the blue channel to full black (full intensity), then save it out and you have a regular normal map.

The transparency and glow maps are combined into a single channel, so that might end up giving you problems when you come across ships that have both transparency and glow, In my case, I manually separated them in PS before I plugged them into Blender. Not hard to do, but you have to figure out where the actual transparency is in the texture versus glow.

Anyway, I highly recommend this blog to give you some insight into how the textures are packed: Linky

Curious about that "interesting stuff" you are mentioning here...
