When a ship is being warp scrambled, webbed, target painted, jammed, etc. you will be able to see it on the tactical overlay. This will help tacklers spread points more effectively in chaotic engagements and give fleet commanders a better understanding of what is going on during a fight.

Second.

I'd love to have the E-War icons above the crosshair or something similar.

If you're reading this then that means my time travel worked

How about improving the tactical overview completly. Add a filterbox, make AOE effects appear and everything related to the battlefield. Who is attacking who etc. lines, names etc. just like the map with the map-filter-box-settings-thingy.

I'm in favor of a complete overhaul of the tactical overlay. There is so much you can do with it to make combat in large scale fleet fights more informative and engaging. I really hope they work on it for the next expansion.

I use Tactical overlay a lot, and there are some changes I would like to see too. The idea of an FC Tactical overlay is rather interesting; and I can see it being useful if it was configurable like the current overview.

It's a lot to grasp for new players of course; but it's also not something most new players will need immediately.

Changes I'd like to see:

Configurable Tactical overlay with the ability to switch between configuartions; possibly tied to your standard overview settings, in that you switch tabs and it changes the tactical overlay to pair with the new tab.

A switch on the tactical overlay, to change from FC to personal overlay at any time. Essentially, it just drops the FC configuration when you turn it off.

Match color for color-tags on contact point with Overlay field. Example, a hostile ship will be indicated by a red hue at the contact point, a flashy-red might also include a strobing effect that travels up the line connecting the ship to the overlay.

I'm not sure how best to approach the idea of EWAR tags on the Tactical overlay, as mentioned. It seems to me that could produce a great deal of junk and cluttter if not implemented properly.

Perhaps a line between the attacking ship and the target, similar to the overlay lines; but with an EWAR tag attached to the line at the targets end. Could be a simple as a little round ballon off the line with an icon indicating the effect.

Stuff like this could really enhance the use and effectiveness of the tactical overlay; adding a new dimension to combat in EVE, that happens to also be a progression of the current system.

Side note:

I have noticed that structures like stations obstruct the overlay, and sometimes make it hard to tell if your target is within range using the overlay. The overlay field becomes obscured by the station structure, and the line connecting that ship to the overlay is also subsequently obscurred.

I'm not terribly familiar with PvP yet of course; so a lot of that is just inexperience. The direct line between my ship and target will be greater than what I see represented on the tactical overlay anyway.

My thought though, is that to see your Tactical Overlay more clearly; it could be represented by a grid plane where it passes through stations. Not such that it obscurs the station itself; just so the presence of the overlay itself remains intact.
