Gate change

If they really wanted to make it realistic, gates would have POS type shields around them. Bubble camps and stuff would still work, but they would not be the handouts we see right now. Players would actually get to choose NOT to fight.

(A bubble could be put AROUND the gate's shield bubble, meaning the gate camp would get a say in who entered or left the gate from their side, but they would not get free ambush kills)

If the gate on the other side was also camped, well, you are trapped.

For security alerts that block you from using the gates, you also would be unable to enter the shields.

Now, before the ambush lovers cry foul, consider this is little different than someone being unable to leave a station, or undock from an outpost, as they know an ambush would greet them. They are free to stay forever, log out, etc.

Alternately, the gate could make available lists of local from the systems they connect with.

The point is, an ambush should be clever, not simply take advantage of a game mechanic for cheap killmails.

I agree that gate camping needs a look through, but not sure if i support the bubble idea.

I hope you realize the only effective change this puts on gate camps is that they won't churn kill mails as easily. Bubbles will still need to be crossed before anyone can warp away, if they are set in position.

Someone who manages to be trapped at a gate may well choose to give up, or negotiate for passage. All they can do is log off, or risk exiting. They cannot target anyone, or even cloak.

And if dim enough to go afk, you can just bump them till they are outside the shields.

I should think it would raise the quality of kill mails, knowing that more fights were done face to face, instead of by surprise aided by lag or simple not being prepared.

(though rare, perhaps, system lag does exist, and kills do happen because this gave one side an advantage they did not earn)
