Bittersweet, or just plain stank?

Anybody notice a kind of mean-spiritedness has descended upon this community? I don't know, but I seem to recall the great weight of posts being more "family" than contention. The name calling. The innuendo, and flat out accusations...sure there were a few, but in the main it was more cooperate and espirit de corps.

Has there been a population turnover over the years and I just noticed? In the south we characterize this sort of speech as "ugly." It's people being ugly. I don't mean "can't we all get along?" Sure we can't, or we wouldn't be shooting at each other. But, here? In this august venue of great tradition, can't we elevate things a bit?

I'd like to call on everyone to just check to see if you might can rephrase something you're about to say so as not to make it a projectile. We all don't have to agree, but we can "disagree without being disagreeable." I swear. Reading this forum has my ulcer acting up and I don't even HAVE an ulcer.

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

Talk about the good old days? Before we beg the devs to roll the game back seven years, how's about us bringing back to mind when we were all in this thing together. It's our combined EFFORT$ that keep it rolling. For that we still have this game.

Play nice. Don't poo where you sleep.

Since I am also from the south, I have a saying you might find relevant.
Don't **** into an electric fan to try and cool down, you just end up miserable and warmer than before.

I find that the forums are full of nice helpful people if you approach them in a normal, respectful way.

If someone wades in yelling
"I HAVE THE BEST IDEA AND NOBODY'S THOUGHT OF IT BEFORE" or "I GOT SCAMMED, OMG BAN THE EBIL PEOPLE" or asks a question that shows that they don't respect our time enough to make the slightest effort to research the answer on their own, that naturally irks some of us forum denizens. So, we get a bit mouthy.

Besides. Trolling is not only a art, it's an fun art.

Yes, I agree wholeheartedly. Trolling is an artform and so is being a smartass. There's a thin line between being a smartass and being an a$$hole though...if you get my drift...well...maybe I should rethink that one.

It was like this from release over 8 years ago, and I haven't noticed any real variation from that since.

I find it rather comforting actually, imo EVE forums have been very consistent over the years. When you come back after taking a break, it's like coming home to your possibly disfunctional family... yet still familyLol

There is a line. Sometimes, it's a lot of fun to look at that line, say "Fuck it" and leave it in your dust, while you go off into the land of sweet smelling asshole.

Go (and I mean this in the nicest way possible) do yourself (ingame, of course), for daring to tell me how I may comport myself on these forums.

Thanks for your unsolicited advice. You may stick it where such things as it belong.

Pots and Kettles, eh Vyl?

There's a well known defect in the human psyche. We remember the good parts of the past and forget the bad parts, while focusing on the bad parts of the present. I keep meaning to file a bug report, but the hold times to get an operator on a prayer are just hellish.

This is what happens when you actively set out to encourage people to behave like twats, there will always be a few morons who take it too far and think it's acceptable to do it everywhere, now because everyone else hardly plays the game or just doesn't bother taking part in the community it seems like there are tons of them.

The old guy who says "Back in my day, a cup of coffee was a nickel" doesn't (in that moment) remember that he made a dime an hour at the time.

We forget the shitty part of our past, and that's why "The Good Ol' Days" is such a cliche.

The first time I quit eve, as in sub lapsed, game time lapsed, etc I used to come to the forums and read in GD whenever I felt an itch to return, the trolloing usually was enough to kill it off again. Then about 22 months ago people were in an oddly "nice" mood and I resubbed ... but in general I find anything in GD to be ruined by feces, however if you move to any of the other sub forums, it's not too bad.
Always ... Never ... Forget to check your references.   Peace out Zulu! Hope you land well!

I agree with the OP. I wrote a long post but the forum just ate it. Grrr.
