Try and stay on topic...

Has anybody encountered any other foolish myths about Anonymous that I should clarify with research in the OP?

Assuming you know the difference between anonymous and Anonymous I would say you are correct.
I am not very "anonymous" because I do not spend that much time on /b/.
I am however a participant in "Anonymous".

Ooops. Do you really need the US to put pressure on Iceland to pressure CCP into revealing your billing info and/or IP in order to add you to The Database of Potential Malcontents?

Uhhh... What? What are you even talking about? Is this some Alex Jones ****?

Edit: Ohh... I get it. You're one of those people that thinks Anonymous is a terrorist organization. FYI Anonymous regularly collaborates with the FBI.

^

I would say the people of libya and egypt actually did that. I'd also be really pissed if I were them at Americans comparing their protests to them.

"Um Hi we actually had a real dictator that actually oppressed us, and tortured us...Some even lost their lives. You did what again? Sat outside in a drum circle? Got maced then fiddled on your macbook?"

"You guys have masks...yeah thats cool our opposition leaders got tracked down thrown in prison, tortured, and then their families had to flee...."

Yeah not really the same.

Hooray for 1st world whitey problems!!!

I find your inability to read the OP most frustrating...
To say that there are no members of Anonymous in the middle east is like saying there are no gays in Islam. It's one of those ignorant things people say without thinking about the logic behind such a presumptuous statement.

Anonymous was not only responsible for on foot protests in the middle east but also provided a logistical powerhouse for the opposition. I am not going to go into detail what they did that made them so important, That is what reading the OP is for.

Having studied the Arab spring rather closely last year...(Middle eastern studies class) And knowing who overtly supported and started the online movement (for that matter who and what started it to begin with)...and helped. (Google, facebook). Which helped organize it so people began the actual physical part... (Which is really what overthrew said governments)

I can't recount one news article or direct first person account of anyone crediting anon... or even thanking them. I'm not saying they didn't help or people joined them to help... But uh I wouldnt go over board patting ones self on the back because it wasn't anon or even them indirectly.

You can't even fix a computer, I highly doubt you can perform and great feats of haxx0rz.
Anonymous is about as useful as Al-Qaeda, they do nothing but claim to do everything.

Anonymous has had nothing to do with **** when it comes to the recent events in the middle east. You can thank the people that live there + a little help from the other countries of the world. A couple of DDOS attacks on various middle eastern government websites doesn't start, help or end a revolution. It doesn't take much talent to do a DDOS either. Turn on computer, download and install botnet software, fap to porn...that's about all it takes. All Anonymous is is another meme from 4chan for the most part and idiots running around in masks at protests because they want to be kewl and leet. It takes approximately 1 hour to write a piece of code to flood another computer with useless packets. Any other hacking they've done has relied on social engineering and use of well known and very old exploits on servers whose admins are too lazy and stupid to patch them, or coders that have absolutely no idea how to code because they got some mickey-mouse degree in web design in 6 months at a community college and have absolutely no clue about writing secure code.

There is absolutely no reason the media should be paying this much attention to them. They're not talented, they're not smart, they're just a bunch of /b/tards running around trying to act important for the most part. Unfortunately the media is about 1000000 times dumber than they are and think they're actually accomplishing something that requires intelligence.

You are either a decent troll or a total moron. Read the OP...
Anonymous disrupted communications between the dictatorships and their on foot forces, misdirecting them and in some cases sending them into ambushes.

Anonymous was not only a huge logistical boon to the protestors and those in the uprising but was also in many cases there on foot. Another poster ITT claimed that there were no members of Anonymous in the middle east... Could you imagine? Even if you somehow magically changed the past and made it so the thousands upon thousands of Anons coordinating on foot efforts were suddenly not there, I still feel that the logistical efforts of Anonymous would be more then enough to assure a victory.

For you or anybody else to say that Anonymous had nothing to do with the uprisings in the middle east or their subsequent success is not only broadly offensive and ignorant it is insulting to ME as somebody who participating in the uprisings.

That's actually complete bullshit, there is no evidence of such that I can see. And Aljazeera's little expose on Anonymous is actually not entirely accurate.

On the other hand the US DoD actually did a bit of hacking of Libya's defense systems, not /b/tards.

Most of the circumvention of various countries cutting their citizens off from the internet was facilitated by other governments, not the /b/tards.

Anonymous had very little impact on what was going on in the middle east.

Yup you caught me... There is no possible way I could cut the the very core of your argument... Roll
I mean that would require actual facts and citations from numerous journalistic agencies and organizations... Which I don't have backing me up right?

Dude you are trying WAY to hard.
