Introduction: I have been doing PR for Anonymous on and off since the days of chanology, I have also done investigative and Counter Intelligence work for Anonymous as early as 2008.

Purpose: The purpose of this thread is to educate and inform people on the topic of Anonymous and point out some common myths and misconceptions. I will be linking citations for the purpose of better informing the readers of this thread. I will not be posting every single citation supporting the facts listed below because in some cases this would cause the thread to be bloated. 1-3 Citations are all that will be posted and the reader is welcome to do additional research should they so choose.


Myth: Anonymous is a bunch of children who browse or post on 4chan /b/
Fact: Anonymous ≠ anonymous! Anonymous with a capital "A" refers to the global activist movement whereas anonymous refers to the posters on 4chan's /b/ board.

Myth: Anonymous started occupy wall st
Fact: Anonymous actively monitors the Occupy movement but was not the entity that started the movement, Occupy was started by a group called Adbusters. Anonymous participates in the Occupy movement but doesn't control it.

Myth: Anonymous had nothing to do with the Iranian uprising or the various uprisings in the middle east.
Fact: Numerous journalistic agencies and organizations have reported extensively on this subject. While it is unclear if Anonymous was the catalyst that started the uprisings it is widely agreed that without the efforts of anonymous the uprisings may not have been viable or as successful. Anonymous disrupted communications between the military oppressors and their command structure at key moments during the protests and uprisings. This provided crucial logistical and tactical advantages to the uprising.

Myth: Anonymous is a modern day Illuminati
Fact: Anonymous has been called many things that range from freedom fighter to terrorists. They have also been the subject of elaborate conspiracy theories that purport that Anonymous already has a deep rooted control of domestic and foreign governments and that Anonymous somehow controls everything like a modern day Illuminati. This is simply NOT true.

Assuming you know the difference between anonymous and Anonymous I would say you are correct.
I am not very "anonymous" because I do not spend that much time on /b/.
I am however a participant in "Anonymous".

Edit: Ohh... I get it. You're one of those people that thinks Anonymous is a terrorist organization. FYI Anonymous regularly collaborates with the FBI.

Everybody has friends that they get into fights with sometimes. All that matters is at the end of the day you're still bros. The FBI does what they are compelled to do. This in no way means we do not share common goals. I recommend you do some research on Scientology and how Anonymous has been working very closely with the FBI on such matters.

I am not saying you are wrong I am just saying it is a great deal more complicated then a few Google searches will allow you to glean.

I made a thread asking if I should Take down hydra Reloaded because they kicked me out of their alliance.
about 1 week after making this thread the majority suggested I disband them... So I did.

Then some time went by where I was trying desperately to sell the alliance but nobody wanted to buy it so I gave it back to garmon.

I also forced Cry Havoc into retirement by trolling goons into blowing up a POS they owned which contained the majority of their wealth.

I was actually hoping his avatar had a guy fawkes mask on... Though admittedly I really loath that they use it... Kinda played out. They need a new symbol or mask. I say go Japanese kabuki or something. Who do I speak with to get this changed?
