Logging into EVE snipes my internet connection

Pretty much what the topic says. Roughly 30% of the time I log into a character, my internet connection dies once the station environment loads. It's perfectly fine up to this point; I can log into my account and get to the character selection screen. However, once I load the station environment, the internet connection for my entire household goes dead for 20-30 seconds.

This makes it pretty much impossible for me to use alts or log in/out for ganks.

If you don't give any idea of how you connect (cable/DSL/3G/whatever) then nobody can help.

Yeah, I forgot about that.

I use a wireless router and a cable connection. I had this issue on my old PC which was physically connected to the router. It's also happened without the router involved.

This smells like your ISP is doing something fishy to your network traffic.

I've considered that as a possibility. My ISP is Eastlink, in Canada. I think they do some small level of traffic shaping.

Well I have the same problem as DHD, although I think when I'm on wireless its 75% of the times the router crashes
Through cable on the same router there are never any problems

I don't think this has anything to do with ISP's, as I've had the same issue with different ISP's

My router is a Linksys WRT120N which is also serving as dhcp server
The Linksys is behind the actual cable modem connecting to the ISP

DHD what router you have?

I'm at our beach house and am having a similar issue, I can be in all aspects of eve with no connection issues, but here the second I attempt to join audio in a room, or in the fleet my wireless connection is immediately disconnected. With Comcast cable at home this is never an issue, at the coast we have a charter cable subscription.

Dude that's a golden clue, I disabled EVE Voice on all accounts and the disconnects and router resets are gone immediatly!

Have you checked your router settings? That sounds extremely like router flood protection to me. When so much data passes through your router it blocks all activity for about 30 seconds.
