....I've recently trained up all the necessary skills for scanning down plex'. I've used the CCP scanning tutorial on Youtube, which is great. I find a site, then select it and the red sphere appears. I then centre a probe onto that and move the four other probes into overlap position after altering their range to 16au. Then, when I go to reduce that further after scanning I see a red circle appear. There's no centre to it and it's not spherical in shape, just a red ring. The tutorial on Youtube doesn't mention or include this and I'm confused.

Can anyone explain this for me?

It means that only 2 probes are getting hits on a signature, and the signal isn't strong enough to pinpoint a location.

to be more precice:

your target signature is somewhere around the the red line. its a circle due to the fact that only 2 probes pick up the signal (as already stated).
depending on your probing skills the circle is more or less accurate.
as signals are only in a certain distance from planetary objects you should check where the circle crosses any plantes/belts and focus your probe around those. knowing this you can greatly reduce your probing range on the next cycle (16au to 4au) and so skip a range - speeding up your overall probing a lot.

edit:
oh and next time make a better thread topic and dont edit some **** like "close please" into it. even if your question got answered this thread could be usefull for future references. dont be so selfish
