as I understand this is a simple matter of moving the ccp directory to another location and nothing but shortcuts need to be adjusted.

is this correct, there's no registry or windows internal BS that needs to be changed to reflect the new path?

and yes, I did look, search stinks

we shall soon see if I am or if I'll need to spend 10 minutes of my life downloading the client again

it only takes you 10 minutes? even on a wired cable connection it takes me like an hour.

I'm not in front of my gaming VM at the moment, but I believe there is a folder in either AppData\Local or AppData\LocalRoaming that reflects the settings and other miscellaneous crap for the client. This is based off the installation location and may reflect settings, overview, etc.

So, either export anything you love or do some jiggery pokery with those folders if things don't work 100%

If you copy the data files, any registry info that's needed is corrected on launch. No need to download the data again.

welp....

ok so heres the deal

yes, the app data files need to be renamed or copied to the appropriate directory names if you wish to retain settings
however, that does not seem to keep your settings

very odd, I copied the cache and settings files to the proper dir that the new location created on startup
(geeze ccp thats a hell of a long time to copy 1.3gb of files dir to dir on the same drive???)

still the basic settings were all defaulted, it even played the intro movie, and music
had to redo all ui settings and options and reload my overview file

in all I guess it could have been worse, but it certainly could have been better in terms of restoring settings (it really seems simpler on first glance than it works out to be)

meh, live and learn

Let me give my example. I installed a new SSD drive on F:

I have moved EVE and it all works fine, EVE has created a new APP Data folder on my C drive. As it looks like EVE writes loads to this folder I want the APP Data to also be on the SSD drive. How do I get it to be there rather than on the C: Drive

Only way (afaik) is to modify your registry. I don't even know the specifics, as I don't care.

When you have moved your game files and launched from the new location, find your Eve profile files. In Win 7 they are at Users/Your_User_Name/AppData/Local/CCP/Eve

You will have a folder for the old Eve location and the new Eve location, so just copy the old folder contents to the new folder. The next time you launch the client from the new location it will have the old location's profile settings.

But both the new app data and old app data are still on the C:/ drive. I want the new App Data to be on the F:/ drive which is the SSD.

P.S.

Dear CCP.

We need an option to store the apps data for EVE in another location even if it is with a fresh install.........................

As explained in above post learn to use junctions/symbolic links mentioned here too: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Multiple_clients

Though I´d actually leave the app data where it is on C:, you can just MOVE the corresponding directory to your SSD, create a new identically named empty one in the old place, then link to the one on the SSD.

It´s how I manually manage my SSD.
Everything is still installed on the big harddrive, but I just move my currently favorite games and apps to the SSD. Create a junction(symbolic link) from the old place and the system still thinks everything is where it put it. While it is in fact runing from the SSD.
Really sped up the patching process and probably everything else. Not sure anymore as remembering life before the SSD is getting harder. Big smile

I figured out an easy way to do it.

1. Copied AppData folder to new location

2. Go into regedit

3. go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

4. Find AppData & Local AppData

5. Edit them and point them to new locations

Done :)

EVE is now writing 99% of data to new SSD drive.

Big smile
