I've been thinking about skilling up and grabbing a logistics ship. However I'm not in a corp yet and was wondering if logistics was a very in demand skill? If it is what is a good path to take if I'm flying Gallente ships?

Logistics is quite an advance ship to fly and if you are new to the game I would not really recommend it. They are mainly used in PVP and incursions. In those situations they are essential however and people will love you for flying them. (Be sure to fit it properly and have proper support skills (otherwise you need not bother) and you really want logistics 5)

In PVP Guardian (amarr, armor) and Scimitar (minmatar, shield) are used - other races rarely. For incursions I believe it is Guardian and Basilisk and Scimy - not sure on that.

Seconded. Logistics 5 or don't even bother. There is a huge difference between 4 and 5.

Guardian and Basilisk for maximum rep, but they cannot operate without a capacitor buddy. They are best in larger fleets with multiple logistics ships.

Scimitar can solo rep shield, but reps a bit less than a Basilisk, and doesn't have any energy transfer bonuses. The Scimitar, like all Minmatar ships, is quite small, agile, and fast, so it is favoured in gangs.

The Gallente Oneiros is a solo armor repper, but it isn't as favoured as a Guardian. Like the Scimitar, it doesn't have any energy transfer bonuses.

Quick note:
Logistics has two meanings in EvE.

1.) The logistics class of ships that get bonuses to Remote Repair. These are very much in demand, although the gallente version (the onieros) is the least demanded logistics ship. It was buffed this last patch, but in my experience has not yet become a major staple in fleets. The good news is its moderately easy to cross train to amarr's guardian (need amarr cruiser V), which is probably the most widely used logistic ship.

2.) Logistics is also a common term for acquiring goods and hauling them. This is in demand, but in a very different way. Most of this demand is for Freighter, or even moreso, Jump Freighter Pilots. Those are some expensive ships though, and nice juicy targets...

I fly logistics in Incursions. This is easily achievable with Logistics 4 in a Basilisk for shield fleets or Guardian for armour fleets. To fly a Scimitar, I would recommend Logistics 5.

Basilisks are typically fit as 4/2 or 5/1 shield transfer/energy transfer modules. There are a few crazies out there flying cap stable 6/0 Basilisk fits, but they are crazy people.

The Oneiros is apparently used in armour fleets because it has wonderful bonuses to tracking links. I haven't flown an Oneiros myself, so I have no advice for you here, other than Logistics 5 or go home.

But don't listen to the naysayers: you can fly a perfectly usable basilisk 4/2 at Logistics 4. You might get passed over by shiny fleets who want a pair of 5/1 basilisks, but that is life in Vanguards.

Logistics are in extreme demand in pvp. Some alliances/corps will - in effect - pay you to fly it (if you lose it in pvp, you get reiimbursed with more than it was worth). That said, I've mainly seen Caldari (Basilisk) and Minmatar (Scimitar) EDIT: yes and Amarr (Guardians if armor tanked) logis about.

Anyone with a recommended fit for the Oni and Scimi for Incursions? I'm at 4 and training to 5. Just making my way back into the game so my game knowledge is a bit rusty.

Note that Oneiros was recently buffed and is perfectly comparable to Guardian these days for incursion uses. In fact, I think Incursion fleets actually prefer Oneiros (Guardians have to be employed in pairs as they have to cap transfer each others to stay cap stable).

Not certain of PvP applications; I would imagine Oneiros would also work there after the buff but most armor fleets fly Guardians. My guess would be because, well, they have always flown Guardians and it would take :effort: to EFT warrior up a new Oneiros fit... Big smile

It is a fine thing to aim for if you want to get to running Incursions but it is a fairly long train; Logistics V is nearly mandatory, as is good capacitor-related skills. It also includes lot of training that does nothing to your combat efficiency. Most people first train for a suitable combat ship before adding Logistics training on top of it.

I've flown this and had no issues getting pickup fleets:

[Oneiros, Oneiros Logi5 Stable]
4x Large 'Solace' Remote Bulwark Reconstruction

2x Cap Recharger II
Tracking Link II (Tracking Speed)
Shadow Serpentis Tracking Link (Tracking Speed)

Power Diagnostic System II
Imperial Navy Armor Explosive Hardener
Imperial Navy Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane
1600mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I
Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II

2x Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I

5x Medium Armor Maintenance Bot I

Note that this is in no way EFT-warriored, mega-blinged or otherwise super-optimized. Just something I threw together with whatever faction mods I had on hand in hangar, using Tech 2 for the rest. I also fail for not being able to use Tech 2 rep drones Lol

What's a good thing to train up to/do before logistics becomes something that would be affordable for me?

Is what I got in my hangar (ok i got faction tracking links) you will NEED CR8 and CC 8 though. Yeah it can be a bit on the flimsy side compared to a basi (dont try and tank the HQ stealth bombers in it) but the tracking links will make your fleet mates love you. Can always put in a little bit more tank if you are in a public fleet and not in a blitzing fleet. But it gives something to work from if you so wish. In general though the basi is more forgiving i think as it is a lot tougher (if i switch out my AB i can easily tank the bomber alpha in the mothership fight)

Logi are great and almost always in demand.

but as a newer player I would focus on your support skills first. A logi without a really good tank and really cood cap skills is not very good.

Also while traning towards logi you pass a lot of cruiser ships....do not pass these by.

What I would do.

Train into a battle cruiser (myrmidon) with some gunnary and drone skills.
Once in the battle cruiser really focus on your tank and cap skills.
Once thats done you will know the game a bit more and be well preparded to train for logi.
SO you will have a long train of Gal Cruiser to 5. Plan to get heavy assault ships and recons while here.
then you can train into logi and work towards logi 4.

Personally, I fly logi way more often than recons and certainly more than lolhacs (then again, i'm cal so the cerb/eagle are about as bad as it gets in that class). I couldn't agree more with the start in battlecruisers, since they are essentially the gang shipsize of chioce nowadays, but picking up logi only after training every other t2 cruiser is nonsense. I only wish I had trained for the basi sooner and logi V opened up more pvp and pve doorways than any other ship skill i've trained since cruiser V itself.

to answer the OP's question a bit more directly- Logi is a rather high end skill set to do properly, and not much use to not do properly. The same can be said of the much debated ECM- can be a win-button or a waste of ship, never know till it happens.

Logi skills are fairly intensive, but the cost of the ships themselves is going to be the biggest hurdle to overcome.

As a solo pilot, logi is almost useless. You can get into RvB, FW, obviously Incursions....and find fleets to offer Logi to- but for solo activities, you can't use the skills.

I made that mistake as a newb with EW (ECM in particular) because I just never used it in the solo mission running or plex grinding I was doing. Until I got more involved with PvP fleet operations, I never used ECM really.

The more specialized the support skill- the more dependent on being part of a team it is.

The other hard part of higher end skills like Logi is that you are basically 'learning' while flying a grotesquely expensive ship against difficult PvE enemies, or in PvP where you will be called as Primary before your first rep cycle is off. (just like Blackbird pilots experience)

Having said all that- without going all the way to T2 Logi, I've made use of remote repair while grinding Sleepers in WH with a couple buddies. But in PvP- it's rare to find a situation where a non-dedicated (expensive and skill intensive to fly) Logi ship will be a better option than bringing another DPS or other type of support ship. It's sort of all or nothing.

Another guy asked about the same question just a few days ago. You can read my resonse here. Your question has mostly been answered by others it looks like (tbh I didn't read the entire thread) but logi is defiantly a welcome ship type to any fleet. The oneros isn't the first one people call for... but I'll take a oneros in my fleet over nothing any day. If you don't have cruiser 5 yet then it wouldn't be a far diversion to go for the Guardian (or any other logi) if you'd rather fly that. I'd say take the time and pick carefully now rather than have to train up another cruiser 5.
