i looked and looked but couldn't find what i was looking for, so here is the question.

what are the pros cons of having a vindicator vs a mach in an incursion fleet (prolly jst vanguards) DPS fit. i want to get the vindicator for its DPS but i see a lot more Machariel's going around and they have significant less DPS but similar in price?

could it be better applied DPS as paper dps is a lie? or ????

I think it has something to do with the fact that there are more shield pickup fleets around and the mach is a safer bet than the Vindi in that area.

The Vindi has less range but a 90% web. That's it really.

It's not how much DPS you can put out, it's how much of that DPS gets to your target. Mach wins that - with AC's / barrage you can still get good volleys across your whole locking range. Blaster Vindis would struggle at 30km without oneiros support.

Also, last I checked Jita, you can get a t2 rigged mach for about the same price as 1 vindicator hull.

Vindi hulls seem at least in practice, prone to being a little thin in terms of shield hp vs. avg Mach. If flying Vindi, make certain you're flying with good logistics pilots.

Meh, same number of mids and lows for both. The reason why shield fleets put in order of priority of nightmare>mach>vindi is due to damage projection, aka, vindi is only best out to about 10km, after which the the nightmare wins, but mach has slightly better tracking and similar dps. Armor fleets tend to focus more on NCO legion fleets as the most common, because shield battleships can generally beat armor battleships in contests, but legion fleets tend to beat any shield fleet in NCO contests.

Also, a fleet can fly with 9 nightmares/machs and 2 logi's, and be very effective. A fleet can't fly with 9 vindi's, simply because of too much shortrange overkill limiting its usefulness.

A mach doesn't have better tracking than a nightmare.
