Any chance to change implant names in the manner suggested here: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=41842&find=unread

Quote:
Hardwiring implants have names that are not descriptive. For example:

Zainou 'Gnome' KTA10
Inherent Implants 'Noble' ZET330
Eifyr and Co 'Rogue' EY-1

I propose to change their names using the following format:
[Manufacturer] - [Effect] [Generation]

Their new names would be:

Zainou - Launcher CPU Reduction Mk. 1
Inherent Implants - Hull Hitpoints Mk. 4
Eifyr and Co - Afterburner Duration Mk. 3

The generation of an implant is determined as follows: the weakest bonus is Mk. 1, the second weakest Mk. 2 and so on. In this way we can immediately determine what an implant does and how strong it is without needing to check its description or attributes.

That's the general idea. Should be a simple change and make is so much easier to find the hardwiring that we're looking for.

Hardwiring - Launcher CPU Requirements Mk. 1 would be an even better format. The manufacturer tag is hardly of any consequence.

There is an initiative underway to revamp a number of module and item names, and the Hardwiring implants are part of that. The solution we'll implement is not at all dissimilar to what you propose. More information on the whole shebang forthcoming shortly.

Hey, will this include adding the suffix "script" to all script names, e.g., "scan resolution script" instead of "scan resolution"?

This would make it much easier to find scripts in hangar or on the market, as we could just search for "script" and they'd all come up.

@CCP Gnauton: Can you check if that would be possible? It wouldbe really nice and should be easy if you are updating anyway.

It would be nice if you could work slot number into the name as well.

I support this, but please please keep the old names in the item description somehow! It's good flavour!

Why not change some ship names, too?

The Jaguar can become the Kite, Hawk becomes... The Bad, the Cerberus can become the Panda (because it's almost too overspecialized for it's own good), and the Rifter can become 'PvP frigate A'.

:\

THIS IS STUPID, Renaming things is a pointless change.

rather then renaming items why not just improve the search to allow searching for 'mwd' or 'active hardener' , 'lse' etc?
I'm sure a lot of people are going to be annoyed at having to learn all the names again
and especially the ones for prop mods are very dull and generic and sound nothing like a space game

It's not about improving the search, though that would be useful also.

It's about letting you immediately see how good a module is without checking its attributes or memorizing names. For example open the market group for stasis webifiers: you'll see list of webs and the only ones whose name clearly identifies their quality is the regular tech 1 and the tech 2 ones. The others have arbitrary names that have no relationship to how good they are, or in case of hardwirings, what they actually do.

So you want to not have to know anything, but would like the same insight as the people that do?
You think that helps you how? After all, you still do not know why it is better, maybe you just bought snake oil because someone told you to?

[Edit]
And to preempt any "but ccp knows which modules are better so it won't be snake oil" answers, we are talking about the same group of people (sorry devs), that listed advanced artillery and armor tanking as recommended certificates on the Panther. A ship that after fitting 1x t2 cloak, 5x 1200mm T2 and a single t2 LAR has 24 remaining powergrid for 12 empty battleship slots.

Its not even about knowing which is better really. But what its function is. A ZET implant name shows no indication what it actually does. What slot it uses, and bonus amount. The number suffex adjusts with % bonus yet the numbering used is erroneous.
There is no benefit being "in the know" of what alpha code is used for any hardware ability. Or what missile name went with what size missile other than saved time in the market. The over saturation of random names per size class helped no-one and should be limited to a family of items. Such as Arablast being meta 4 for any launcher.
This makes shopping more expedient. Lets someone get what they want faster.
Plus An upgraded search parameter that would allow for key words out of sequence like "Heavy Nova" finding all Nova Heavy missiles should be added someday and would help even more.

I didn't even think of this! Sad day. Cry

I really don't understand why people whine so much about things getting meaningful and consistent names however. If you want to memorize random words just go read some of the more obscure parts of a dictionary.

This whole renaming initiative is just wrong. You are dumbing down the game by taking advice from the instant gratification crowd. You are destroying years of EVE history and color to make things easier for those who won't put the time in to learn the local culture. Think about it.

Edit: some examples of what I really don't like (before/after):

"Quad LiF Fueled Booster Rockets"
"Prototype 100MN MicroWarpdrive I"

"LiF Fueled Booster Rockets"
"Experimental 100MN Afterburner I"

"Phased Monopropellant I Hydrazine Boosters"
"Upgraded 1MN Microwarpdrive I"

"Catalyzed Cold-Gas Arcjet Thrusters"
"Limited 1MN MicroWarpdrive I"

"Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon Microwarpdrive"
"Experimental 10MN MicroWarpdrive I"

"Monopropellant Hydrazine Boosters"
"Limited 1MN Afterburner I"

"Cold-Gas Arcjet Thrusters"

EVE is not about remembering strange, unrelated names.
Renaming items to make the naming logical and easy to apprehend is not "dumbing down" EVE.

You're not supposed to feel like you're logging in to a happy, happy, fluffy, fluffy lala land filled with fun and adventures, that's what hello kitty online is for.
