What ever happened to advanced settings after premium came out?

People speak of 2004, before the premium patch that had more graphical settings than there are currently present. After the patch a lot of settings, such as anisotropic filtering were removed and never returned. After I found this thread from 2004 I became interested and tried some of the tweaks they mentioned, but to no avail. Old tweaks like advancedDevice=1 no longer worked, and in the end there was no effect at all.

This topic probably has been posted before, but I can't seem to find anything about it anywhere I look, so sorry if this a repost or something similar.

Anyways, is there a way to restore these settings, or are they going to be revived in a later update? Ugh
